AB - In the light of the development of new construction systems and envelopes based on renewable and natural materials, that is recently obligatory for the EU member countries through New renovation Wave strategy, authors present research on the topic of energy renovation of buildings using renewable materials in modular systems and its possibilities in two developing countries. This paper presents energy savings, through case study of deep renovation of buildings, using timber modular systems for enveloping the characteristic example of residential building. Paper focuses on the period between 1971 and 1980, due to the considerable number of modular buildings designed during the peak of the construction progress and promotion of prefabricated buildings. Total potential energy savings for such building types is considered according to national typologies of residential buildings in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. Through a comparative analysis of these countries, the paper presents following parameters of buildings built in period 1971-1980: total number of buildings, total number of apartments, average energy need for heating - Qh,nd, and total energy need for heating before and after the renovation of the envelope applying standard measures from national typologies and applying timber modular envelope systems, which have the potential for deep renovation of buildings.

AB - The goal of this research is to show potentials of vegetation walls in order to
decrease temperature of facade surfaces of buildings during summer. Decreasing these
temperatures directly affects coefficient of thermal conductivity of façade elements. The use
of vegetation walls in architecture has opened up new possibilities for reducing energy
needed for cooling during summer months when the experiment was performed. The research shows the design of a concrete prefabricated, modular model of a vegetation wall which
contains plants and its impact on the temperature balance in the building envelope. It is
noticeable that vegetative walls covered by plants play an important role in the harmonization
of the parameters of the microclimate in relation to the local environment. Methodology
presented in this paper was based on analysis of climate characteristics of Belgrade climate
zone, experimental measurements of the test model and comparative analysis with the
reference wall. During the experiment, the data about external climate parameters and the
coefficient of heat transfer through the wall were continuously measured. Also, in order to
examine the effect of plant species on the temperature parameters of the green wall,
temperature of the wall with different plant species was measured. Data analysis enabled the
assessment of the efficiency of thermal insulation of the vegetation wall in the summer
period. The distribution of temperature values seen on thermograms of the experimental
model showed a fall in temperature in regard to the reference wall, which leads to a decrease
in the total energy required for cooling inside the building. Methodology presented in this
paper allows quantitative analysis of the effects of vertical greenery.

AB - The primary task of this paper is to present to the scientific and professional
community the application of regulations in the field of energy efficiency of Serbia and
Croatia, based on the specific example of a representative sample of the building
envelope of the existing residential building, in the climatic conditions of the city of
Banja Luka (Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina). It will be pointed out to the
adequate settings of a limit for maximum U-values (limit for maximum thermal
transmittance values) for the elements of the building envelope, in order to comply
with specific heat transmission losses in relation to the factor of building form (A/V
ratio) for residental buildings, in case of refurbishment of entire envelopes of existing
residential buildings, as well as in case of building new ones. This paper presents the
analysis of energy savings and costs of measures applied to the energy optimization
of the building envelope on the representative sample of the existing residential
building in Banja Luka.
