AB - This paper presents the results of experimental testing of the bending strength and modulus of elasticity in edgewise bending of unreinforced and reinforced seven-layer LVL (laminated veneer lumber) poplar veneer panels. The aim of the research is to determine the influence of woven carbon fibers on the improvement of the bending properties and modulus of elasticity of LVL bending in the plane of the plate, as well as the influence of adhesives on the bending properties of the composite product, in order to test the potential of using this newly obtained material as a structural element. Bending was performed on small-scale samples. The main research task is the examination of three types of reinforcement, which differ from each other in position, orientation, and number of layers of reinforcement, using two different types of adhesives: epoxy adhesive and Melamine Urea Formaldehyde Resins (MUF). The composite material was produced in four different combinations in relation to the orientation and position of the reinforcement in the layup. The applied reinforcement is defined through three different configurations (EK1, EK2, and EK3) and a fourth control sample (EK4). Each configuration was produced by applying the two previously mentioned types of adhesives. The research findings showed that in the case of samples produced by applying CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced polymer) using epoxy adhesive, it significantly affected the increase in bending strength and flexural modulus of elasticity. The average improvement in bending strength is 32.9%, 33.2%, and 38.7%, i.e., the flexural modulus of elasticity is 54.1%, 50.7%, and 54.7%, respectively, for configurations EK1, EK2, and EK3, compared to control sample EK4. During the testing, the test samples from reinforced panels EK1 and EK2 showed partly plastic behavior up to the fracture point, while the diagram for the test samples from reinforced panels EK3 shows elastic behavior to a considerable extent, with a significantly smaller plastic behavior zone. This research proved the impossibility of using melamine-urea formaldehyde adhesive to form a composite product based on veneer and carbon fabric. The greatest contribution of this work is the experimentally verified and confirmed result of the possibility of applying poplar veneer to design structural elements in LVL using epoxy adhesive.

AB - Studenica marble is the stone used in creating the mediaeval Serbian cultural heritage. This is a historical overview of the importance and use of stone from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages, when the most imposing religious architectural structures were built. The significance of Studenica marble is particularly manifested in the Virgin’s Church at the Studenica Monastery. For its marble façades and artistic architectural elements, among other things, the church was inscribed in the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List in 1986. Through centuries, the Virgin’s Church suffered multiple destructions. In order to restore the marble façades properly and its architectural elements, the marble deposits where the stone was once quarried had to be located anew. When the stone material characterisation had been performed, the right stone was selected for the complex conservation works on the churches in Studenica and Sopocani. A practical implementation of the research results raised the awareness of the marble deposits in the Studenica vicinity, being also part of the national heritage. The Studenica Monastery Cultural Landscape Management Plan envisions preservation of the deposits and their sustainable use for restoration purposes in the future.

AB - The residential sector in Republic of North Macedonia, situated in south-east Europe, is responsible for the consumption of significant amounts of resources and for the production of large amount of emissions and waste. The increased application of wood products can substantially improve these conditions and contribute towards increasing the sustainability in the construction industry and the creation of sustainable homes. The contribution of this paper is the simulation of four different alternatives of residential buildings in the Republic of North Macedonia, evaluated in terms of energy performance and life -cycle assessment for the "cradle to gate" phase. The results of this study revealed that by replacing conventional concrete and masonry constructions with wooden constructions in low-rise family houses, the carbon emissions can be reduced up to 145%. The contribution of this paper is the simulation and analysis of the energy performance by using building performance simulation tools and life -cycle assessment of a residential building and its optimization through several models. The results give significant insight on the influence that the different construction materials have on the environment and buildings performance. Also, the research enables stimulation of the construction industry in utilizing wooden structures and delivering legislation that could increase their use. These actions would provide means for the development of sustainable buildings, neighborhoods and sustainable development of the Republic of North Macedonia.

AB - Dominant share of the residential stock in the European countries has an exploited service life and is in a need for façade refurbishment. This paper contributes with an establishment of a tool for assessment of the sustainability of design options for buildings` façade refurbishment. The tool is based on a multicriteria system, assessing four design criteria, relevant to the process of façade refurbishment. The criteria are evaluated by several surveyed participants by utilizing the Analytic-Hierarchic Process (AHP).The tool is applied on several façade refurbishment design proposals assessment on a case-study of a residential building situated in Skopje, Western Balkans, Europe. Each of the façade proposals is assessed regarding their energy performance, CO2 emissions, investment costs and return of investment. Further, the results of the LCA analysis of the applied materials shows the contribution of each of them to the overall sustainability performance. The results of this research show that the use of wood and modified wood products as façade elements used for buildings` façade refurbishment can substantially decrease the greenhouse emissions and contribute to the carbon offset. However, due to the higher investment costs, the return of the investment is longer, leading to lower sustainability assessment ranking. It is concluded that the refurbishment of the façade with a conventional contact façade has the highest ranking on sustainability, followed by façade refurbishment with contact façade combined with only roof refurbishment/glazing refurbishment or both. Also, the modified wood wall types show high sustainability ranking regarding their refurbishment potential.

Also, the modified wood wall types show high sustainability ranking regarding their refurbishment potential.",

AB - Modern cities and their architectural structures undergo significant functional and physical changes. In recent years, the interventions on building envelopes have increased. Therefore, it is necessary to analyse potential remodeling of glass facades, along with applying the concept of smart technologies, in order to increase energy efficiency of the existing buildings. This paper analyses the modernization process of devastated glass fagade of the tall Slavija hotel, built in 1960s in Belgrade, Serbia, taking into consideration some positive examples of transformation and reskinning of buildings, where the aspect of medialization is an active part of urban renewal. The subject of this paper is the analysis of research findings about the improved thermal comfort of this building, after performing the replacement of its glass fagade and converting the hotel building into an office building. Special attention was paid to the implementation of media technologies and final effects on energy balance of the newly designed facade. The proposed solution is supposed to evaluate the improved thermal comfort that was achieved by a radical renovation of the facade and by replacing the existing facade with a new single facade (double and triple glazed units), with media elements as well as without them. The research results are presented as proposals for improving EE public buildings by implementing the latest system of curtain walls in order to increase the value of the buildings. One of the most important criteria included in the process of energy refurbishment is technological improvement of the existing buildings, along with the presentation of media facades. The case study is based on EnergyPlus simulations.

AB - The curtain wall design involves a complexity of elements responsible for performing different functions, which is the key prerequisite for holistic approach to construction and implementation of systems. This paper deals with specific problems associated with curtain walls, as presented in the case study of a new, single-family home of a villa design in Belgrade. The aim of this paper is to present effective ways to overcome the problems of water leakage and negative thermal impacts of solar radiation on curtain wall, which is caused by common mistakes made during the construction and implementation phase. The paper identifies potential causes that restrict the use of this facility. The main research method is expert analysis, carried out through on-site observations and detection of explicit evidence, as well as through direct access to the project's technical and photo-documentation from the contractors. The results of the paper describe the construction measures to be applied to some parts of the glass facade of the house, in order to prevent further deterioration and reduce the negative impact on the users.

AB - The objective of this research is to establish an appropriate methodology for the restoration of historic buildings and detecting the deformations of structural elements. The basic method adopted includes long-term in situ observation of historic buildings in use, analyses and condition assessment of the construction and performance monitoring for structural elements based on the case studies of Hilandar Monastery, Mount Athos, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The subject of this research is the rampart wall (10th century) and the buildings directly connected to the wall, i.e. the Refectory and the Abbot's Lodge. This research deals with the causes of deformation and the subsequent consequences the leaning of the rampart wall and deformation of the adjacent structural elements. The abovementioned motions and deformations led to the occurrence of cracking in the chimneys of the Abbot's Lodge, where a disastrous fire (2004) destroyed nearly 55% of the monastery structures. The present research discovers the cause of the problem that has been present for more than two centuries and also prevents further deformations on the rampart wall.

AB - Modern cities and their architectural structures are exposed to functional and physical changes.
During the past few years the interventions on the claddings of existing buildings have become
more frequent. Therefore, there is a need to analyze potential remodelling of glass facades in
order to increase energy efficiency of existing buildings, along with applying the concept of smart
technologies. This paper deals with modernizing glass façade of the tall Slavija hotel, built in
1960s in Belgrade, Serbia, taking into consideration some positive examples of transformation
and reskinning of buildings, where the aspect of medialization is an active part of urban
refurbishment. The subject of this paper is the analysis of the enhanced winter thermal comfort
of this building that was accomplished by glass facade replacement. Special attention was paid
to the implementation of media technologies and final effects on energy balance of the newly
designed facade.
The proposed solution is supposed to evaluate the improved thermal comfort that was achieved
by performing a radical modernization of the facade and replacing the existing facade with a new
one, with and without media elements. The research results are proposals for improving EE public
buildings by implementing the latest system of curtain walls in order to increase the value of
those buildings. One of the most important criteria used in the process of energy refurbishment is
technological enhancement of existing buildings, along with the presentation of media contents
and messages, as the elements of new infrastructure systems in modern cities.

AB - The Holy Mount Athos is the cultural heritage of mankind. Until the mid-20th
century the Holy Mount Athos had been visited only by rare pilgrims. Strict rules
of monastic communities limited the number of potential followers. The monastery
complex provided the accommodation for all visiting pilgrims. Modern life and
significant social changes have increased the number of the people interested in
visiting this monastic land. The endless flow of visitors and their frequent visits
eventually began to disturb the lives of monks. That was one of the reasons that led
to creating new accommodation capacities outside the monastery complex in order
to provide the neccesary peace for the monks.
The Monastery Hilandar, the fourth monastery in the hierarchy of the Holy Mount
Athos monasteries and one of the most significant spiritual and cultural center of
the Serbian people, was founded in 1198. In the immediate vicinity of the monastery
of Hilandar walls there are abandoned and demolished facilities: stable,
mulekeepers’ house and heybarn. These facilities were built in the beginning of the
19th century. Ten years ago, the reconstruction of the facilities started in order to
restore the buildings and provide them with additional accommodation space for
potential visitors.
This paper presents the methods of reconstruction through a multidisciplinary
approach based on architectural solutions and the aspects of comfort as well as
the aspects of psychological and sociological mutual influence between two groups
– the monks and the visitors. In this way, the carried out reconstruction revived the old facilities and gave them a new function that is adaptable to modern trends and
social changes.

AB - Being the integral part of a building, street or infrastructure, media contents shape
the appearance of modern cities and affect the way their inhabitants act. The
objective of this paper is to analyze the forms of communication that make the
media contents useful. The communication between mediafacades and their
environment is achieved by applying various sources of artificial light and
mechanical systems. There are numerous advantages regarding media facades and
their impact on certain buildings, city areas and regions. However, these façades
are regarded to be the result of great technological achievements in the field of
architecture and other spheres; therefore, certain problems are inevitably come
across. This paper deals with the challenges in the media architecture and its
interaction with cities and people as well as the users of media objects.
Sustainability, visual and light comfort, visual and light pollution in cities,
exaggerated importance ascribed to the perception of information technologies
and architectural marketing focused on ’healthy life in cities’ are some of the topics
included in this paper. One of the significant aspects that is to be considered
carefully is appropriate ’positioning’ of media contents within a city, since there
is a potential problem of excessive application of media contents in urban
environment. This paper explores the ways in which everyday functioning in a
city (noise, street lights, etc.) can affect the audio-visual qualities of media facades.
Also, this work presents the methods of integrating the principles of sustainable
architecture in the field of media architecture. Whenever it is possible, the
principle of energy efficiency should be included in media-architecture design of
new structures and remodeling of some old structures. Environmentally-aware
development and reductions in energy consumption are the most important goals to be achieved in the field of media façade designs, regarding the phases of
construction and media structures.

objective of this paper is to analyze the forms of communication that make the
media contents useful.
Environmentally-aware
development and reductions in energy consumption are the most important goals to be achieved in the field of media façade designs, regarding the phases of
construction and media structures.",

AB - Renewable materials that belong to the category of the living and green creations of Nature, such as grass and various types of vegetation, are processed and molded in completely different ways than other renewable materials, such as wood and wood-based products. These green products are known for their biological uniqueness and they can be applied to walls and roofs of various architectural structures, while in full vegetation stage, which is one of the highest levels of using renewable materials. Some of the plants that are regarded as organic products similar to wood have been applied in both traditional and modern architecture. Those are: grass, various forms of vegetation, bamboo, straw, osier, cork oak and coconut. These materials can be used in their natural forms in order to make facades and roofs. Also, it is possible to process them in order to create composite materials, with or without adding some other materials. Paper and cardboard also belong to this group of composite materials that can be used under certain conditions. The long-forgotten walls of traditional houses made of rammed earth, with osiers and straw bales as wall filling, are considered to be a good design solution that fits into modern tendencies of sustainable development. Nowadays, it is common to use reed for the purpose of old houses adaptations and construction of new, eye-catching structures in the regions known for such types of roof covering. When used as construction materials, typical life expectancy of most of these organic products is shorter than the life expectancy of usual construction materials. Therefore, it is necessary to provide additional protection in order to prolong the natural durability of these environmentally friendly materials. Also, new technological solutions and possibilities should be applied as well as, so that the requirements of modern architectural structures could be met successfully.

AB - The reconstruction and rehabilitation of architectural structures require the
application of modern strengthening methods of masonry walls in order to preserve
them and increase their bearing capacity. These modern methods of masonry wall
strengthening imply the injection (grouting) and strengthening method of applying
carbon-fiber mesh. Cracks and holes in masonry walls are seen as a major structural
problem of reconstruction. The application of modern grouting is the solution to this
problem. The grouting technology causes monolythisation of masonry walls. Mortar
injection process fills the cracks and holes caused by external influence or rinsing the
existing bonds, as well as the holes created during the process of building those
walls. Types of mortar used for wall strengthening and reconstruction are cement
mortar, cementless mortar and ready-mixed mortar, depending on a crack itself, its
type and position and material of the masonry wall. Carbon-fiber cladding
strengthens the masonry walls preparing them for horizontal pressure. Mesh and
mortar used for attaching the mesh to masonry walls are specially made to
strengthen the masonry walls and are different from carbon-fiber meshes used for
concrete wall strengthening. These procedures are the most commonly used modern
methods and technical solutions in the field of reconstruction of architectural
structures. They are performed in order to provide protection and resistance to
horizontal pressure.

AB - Wood is a natural – environmentally friendly (eco-friendly) material. Wood can be
recycled and contemporary architecture buildings use numerous wood-based
products obtained by adding certain chemical compounds. The use of wood, as both
old and new material, in modern architecture has affected the elements of traditional
architecture, as an attempt to change aesthetic, constructive and stimulating effects
on the overall concept of architecture. Global trends in wood re-application and woodbased
products, as construction and architectural coating material, are present not
only because of aesthetic, artistic and design requirements or tradition and naturebased
inspiration, but also because wood is known to be eco-friendly and energyefficient
and it adapts to modern trends in sustainable development and applied
technology solutions to the production of materials, with the aim of maintaining
connection with Nature, environment and tradition. The spirit of regionalism, the
application of autochthonous materials and traditional building techniques, as well as
methods of particular design situation (on-site construction) are the key to creating
original works of authorship. Striving to preserve the regional spirit of architecture is
a vital, strategically important element of national expression in architecture, from
the perspective of: proper and rational land use, identity and uniqueness protection,
formation of quality environment within the natural or built surroundings, energy
efficiency and natural resources protection and development of living conditions. This
paper presents the examples of wood application and wood-based products as the
elements of façade cladding in contemporary architecture of Belgrade.

AB - Science and technology development in the media brings changes in everyday life and
has a deep impact of culture, art and architecture. Dynamic digital technologies are
included in all modern society segments as well as in architecture. Architecture is a
part of interactive environment of modern cities based on computer-technology
models. Interactive design in architecture, especially interactive facades design, has
caused permanent changes in the conditions of architectural structure perception, as
well as the conditions of social communication and interaction in the urban
environment. Nowadays, unchangeable features of facades belong to history. The
facades have become visually changeable, dynamic and able to meet the users'
requirements and wishes. This paper aims to define the way these modern facades
affect the appearance of new urban space and new communication forms and thus

abstract = "Science and technology development in the media brings changes in everyday life and
has a deep impact of culture, art and architecture.
This paper aims to define the way these modern facades
affect the appearance of new urban space and new communication forms and thus
become the medium for specific social needs in urban environments. This paper
presents the role of modern technologies, interactive programming, the Internet and
social networking in architecture and modern facade design.",

AB - The European and world trends have returned to wood, brick and stone - the traditional building materials for architectural structures. The goal to be achieved is not seen in meeting the visual, artistic and aesthetic requirements and rediscovering Nature and history, as a perpetual inspiration, but in creating the harmony with the trends of contemporary sustainable development and raising environmental awareness. The use of these authentic materials means the return to Nature and tradition as well as the realization of modern demands of economic and energy justification while preserving natural environment. The national architecture and Serbian tradition provide a real diversity of the Serbian traditional architecture motives, their interpretation and effects on the modern architecture. Following the modern influence of the world architecture and striving for harmonious rhythm with the contemporary trends of sustainable development and connection with Nature and tradition, some modern technical and technology solutions are applied to design and realization of certain architectural structures in Serbia.
AB - Evropski i svetski trend ponovne primene drveta, opeke i kamena kao tradicionalnih materijala za gradnju arhitektonskih objekata nema za cilj ispunjenje oblikovnih, likovnih i estetskih zahteva i ponovno otkrivanje prirode i prošlosti kao večite inspiracije, već se ovim želi postići uklapanje u savremene tokove održivog razvoja i povećati ekološka svest. Primena ovih izvornih materijala, predstavlja povratak prirodi i tradiciji uz ispunjenje savremenih zahteva ekonomske i energetske opravdanosti i očuvanjem veze sa prirodom i okruženjem. Sledeći iskustva narodnog neimarstva i srpske tradicije, razvija se izuzetno veliki broj mogućnosti za interpretaciju motiva tradicionalne arhitekture Srbije na savremena arhitektonska dela. Prateći savremene uticaje svetske arhitekture, uz težnju za ekološkim projektovanjem i primenom tradicionalnih materijala, kao i uklapanje u savremene trendove održivog razvoja i veze sa prirodom i tradicijom, dolazi do primene savremenih tehničkih i tehnoloških rešenja pri projektovanju i realizaciji pojedinih arhitektonskih objekata u Srbiji.

AB - Folded structures are three-dimensional structures - spatial structures and they belong to the structural systems. The term folded structure defines a folded form of construction, including structures derived from elements which form a folded structure by their mutual relationship in space. For very long time this type of construction has been realized in practice only in of reinforced concrete and made on site, which conditioned the use of a very complicated shell. Development of prefabricated building led to improvements of this type of construction so that the folded structures could be derived by assembly of prefabricated elements and their relationship - monolithization on site. Development of the research of folded structures, starting from their earliest days to today, followed the innovations and latest developments in terms of applied materials and methods of connection. The tendency for the cost effective and quicker construction pushed the folded structures made in reinforced concrete, and led to the construction realized in wood, steel and other modern materials that eventually experienced expansion.
AB - Naboraste konstrukcije predstavljaju trodimenzionalne konstrukcije - prostorne strukture i pripadaju oblasti konstruktivnih sistema.
