AB - Since adaptations are an increasingly common type of activity architectural practice, and buildings out-of-use are a problem faced by a growing number of cities, the paper discusses the structure and segments of multi-criteria models created in different contexts, which are developed to contribute to better decision-making in the process of adaptation, to achieve maximum economic, environmental and social sustainability. The choice of the appropriate architectural and structural intervention is influenced by several criteria, among which, mostly, the decisive ones are those related to the economic viability of the entire adaptation process. The paper presents a comparative analysis of criteria, applied valorization, and applications of five multi-criteria models. The criteria considered within all types of adaptations have been determined, and those that are specific to a certain type of intervention or context have been pointed out. Regarding applied valorization systems, the advantages and disadvantages of MCDA methods used to develop the analyzed tools, quantitative and qualitative scales of evaluation of criteria and indicators are recognized, as well as the possibility of changing their weighting factor. Since the models are intended for non-professional users, the simplicity of the application was considered. Although the focus of research is on the adaptation of office buildings by adaptive reuse, models that include other types of adaptations are also analyzed, because certain segments of these models may be important for creating new models with a greater degree of personalization, which application may extend the period of the useful life of adapted buildings.

AB - The purpose of this paper was to initiate broad research aimed to establish the preferred color of light of LEDs from a driver's point of view. Two street lighting installations (one with 3000 K and the other with 4000 K LEDs) were evaluated both objectively and subjectively. The objective evaluation, realized using a CCD camera, included detection of small targets and pedestrians. A slight advantage was identified for the 3000 K lighting installation regarding both types of target. As for subjective evaluation (realized through a questionnaire), the task of the participants (drivers) was to choose the more appropriate between the two lighting installations regarding six lighting parameters, as well as the overall visibility. The 3000 K LED installation was evaluated as a better solution for most analyzed parameters, as well as for the overall visibility. However, only the results regarding the color of the light (in favor of the 3000 K LEDs) and the detection of small light-colored obstacles (in favor of 4000 K LEDs) were convincing, which was confirmed by the statistical analysis. Due to the obtained mild preference for the 3000 K LEDs and several limitations/challenges of the conducted surveys, it was concluded that additional research is needed in order to decide on the preferred color of light of LEDs from a driver's perspective.

AB - The objective of this article was to establish the significance of parameters relevant for urban square illumination, particularly those related with the color of light. Performed using a questionnaire and with 154 architecture students as respondents, the survey showed that the 18 parameters can be divided into two groups. The first group of 13 parameters refers to the overall impression, influencing the basic and most important lighting aims like safety, security, orientation, visual comfort, and amenity, whereas the second group includes parameters related to lighting features which may negatively influence the overall impression. The four parameters directly linked to the color of light were evaluated lower than expected, indicating that architecture students were probably translating their attitude toward color in architecture to color of light, thus underestimating this lighting parameter. The survey results also showed that female respondents are more sensitive to parameters, which affect safety and security.

AB - The subjective impressions of pedestrians are necessary in order to decide on the appropriate colour of light to be used for street lighting. Therefore, a pilot project aimed to compare subjective evaluations of the sidewalk illumination under two street lighting installations, realised by LEDs of 3000 K (warm white) and 4000 K (neutral white), was recently conducted in Belgrade. Both installations had comparable sidewalk illuminances as well as other relevant photometric parameters. The evaluation was done through a questionnaire. A group of 139 (61 male and 78 female) respondents, all of them university students, was asked to grade both lighting installations for the sidewalk light intensity, the appearance of human faces, the colour of light and the colour rendering as well as the overall impression. According to the median values, the 3000 K LED installation was considered better than the 4000 K installation for all aspects assessed as well as the overall impression. Although the survey results convincingly showed a preference for 3000 K LEDs for this comparison, additional research is needed using a more representative sample of people and a wider range of locations before a definite conclusion can be reached.

AB - In order to compare drivers' subjective impressions when exposed to high-pressure sodium versus LED street lighting, an experiment was conducted on a Belgrade street. All general requirements for an adequate comparison of subjective impressions, equal luminances being the most important, were fulfilled. A survey was conducted using a questionnaire, which the respondents filled out immediately after driving through both zones of the illuminated street. The respondents, who were young drivers (students), aged 20-25 years, were asked to select the more appropriate of the two installations regarding seven lighting parameters as well as giving their overall impression. The two regimes for which the survey was done gave opposite results. In the normal regime, where both installations had the same photopic luminance, the LED installation was evaluated as a better solution by a majority of the respondents for most of the analysed parameters. In the mesopic regime, where both installations had the same mesopic luminance, most of the respondents judged that the high-pressure sodium installation was the better choice.

AB - The contemporary age is marked by the rapidly advanced digital revolution, unstoppable rise of computer technologies and omnipresence of technological advancements in all aspects of everyday life. In the information era, computer technologies have become pervasive, ubiquitous and dominant. Their hybridization with previously present media forms resulted in the emergence of a new and exuberant field of new media and technologies. New media is a hybrid field of computer based technological forms, which are used in contemporary practice, not only as tool, but also as an expressive medium. Because of the complex nature of new media, the field is extremely hybrid, positioned at the intersection of art, science and culture. Its emerged cultural paradigm is scientific culture, in which dominant characteristics are technological art and cultural forms, as well as information and techno society. In this overall context, architecture is not an isolated phenomenon. The new media have influenced the field of architecture too, offering new possibilities, features, design methodologies and principles for conceptualizing and developing architectural space. In architectural practice different modalities of the new media are being used. These modalities initiated the emergence of the field of new media architecture. The distinction of these state-of-the-art types of architectural space, together with the principles and concepts they rely on, were the main focus and main contribution of the research presented in this paper.

AB - In order to expand the market for energy saving lamps, good old conventional incandescent lamps had to be phased out. Recent news regarding the construction of a new, energy efficient incandescent light source was welcomed by many. The development is focused on energy efficiency, but it is extremely important not to neglect issues such as: spectral power distribution, colour rendering, warm-up time, lamp life and glare. If all of the important issues are resolved with the lamp luminous efficacy not significantly deviating from that of CFLs and LEDs used in interior lighting, the resurrection of incandescent lamps will be welcomed, provided that the light source price is acceptable.

AB - A series of archaeological sites containing ancient Roman city remains which are constantly revealed from the past is located along the Danube river in Serbia. Even though the preservation process is timely, most of these sites have a number of visitors daily. In order to prolong the visiting hours, their illumination is extremely important. Torn between the aims and restrictions regarding the illumination of the archaeological sites belonging to the Roman Emperor’s route in Serbia, this research culminated in a set of general recommendations for the illumination of such settlements. Special attention is given to the lighting of the site borders and its walls, entrances, towers, palaces, temples and monuments.

All general requirements for an adequate comparison of subjective impressions were fulfilled. The survey was conducted using a questionnaire related to all aspects the researchers considered relevant for subjective evaluation of illuminated pedestrian paths in parks. It was concluded that the respondents, both those who had and those who did not have previous knowledge in the field of lighting, strongly preferred the use of metal halide lamps for the illumination of parks, which is in opposition to the statements of some LED manufacturers. It was also shown that light level and feelings of safety and comfort are evaluated as most important.

made on the identity and quality of architectural space. In the present Information
Age, digital technologies have crucially influenced and changed our reality, the way
we behave, connect or communicate. Being part of the overall reality, architectural
space is not an isolated category. It has also received and adopted the influence of
new media and technologies. The way people communicate with space, due to new
technologies, is now different. In some cases space is becoming an interface, a
navigational environment waiting for the user to explore it. This paper analyzes the
emerging new categories of space - new media spaces, qualities that such spaces
possess and the identity they have developed.

AB - Although ambient lighting can significantly contribute to city beautification, it is often designed similar to street lighting, using high-pressure sodium lamps, inadequate for spaces where colour appearance and colour rendering are important. Judging ambient lighting implies evaluating the feelings of security, enthusiasm and attraction. LEDs can be confirmed as the best solution for ambient lighting only if compared with light sources adequate for the illumination of parks, squares, etc. (for example, metal-halide lamps). In order to compare the subjective impressions created by LED and metal-halide lamps a survey was carried out in a Belgrade park. Both lighting installations had three photometric parameters with approximately equal values: illuminance, colour temperature and colour rendering. The respondents rated their impression of metal-halide lighting as better regarding all aspects. The results confirmed the importance of research based on subjective indicators. An additional analysis was done using a new method which introduced the weighting factors.

The selected fireproof materials are classified into four categories: materials of constructive elements, materials of interior elements, finish materials for interiors, and materials for protection of electrical installations from fire. Special attention is given to the areas where electrical installations penetrate interior elements as the potential setting for the source of fire.

AB - The paper considers the justification for the application of light-emitting diode (LED) technology to urban lighting. The results suggest that LEDs are convenient for architectural lighting and deserve to be considered for use in ambient lighting. The recently developed Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) mesopic system enabled the inclusion of mesopic effects into a comprehensive techno-economic analysis, which dealt with efficiency, maintenance and financial aspects of the use of LEDs in street and roadway lighting. It is concluded that the average energy savings when using LED instead of high-pressure sodium (HPS) luminaires amount to 19-26% for single-sided, staggered and opposite layouts, although they are frequently negligible if mesopic effects are not included. The total costs of the LED lighting solutions, even including mesopic effects, are 1.36 to 6.44 times higher than those of the comparable HPS lighting solutions. Therefore, LEDs are questionable for street and roadway lighting.

AB - The night impression of a city, including both the feeling of security and attractiveness, is greatly influenced by lighting. Since the urban night image is created by a variety of illuminated urban elements (streets, buildings, bridges, parks, etc), coordination is necessary in order to achieve a harmonious urban nightscape. A lighting masterplan is a strategic document through which such coordination can be achieved. Even though lighting technology offers endless possibilities for creative illumination, the achievement of attractive light effects by applying monochromatic or dynamic lighting is not an easy task. An inadequate application of monochromatic lighting or aggressive dynamic lighting conspicuously degrades the illuminated buildings and their immediate (and sometimes wider) surroundings.
Pogrešna primena svetlosti u boji, kao i agresivno dinamično osvetljenje, upadljivo degradiraju osvetljene objekte i njihovo neposredno (a ponekad i šire) okruženje.

AB - Since practical application of the recently developed CIE mesopic system assumes the development of new measurement devices, recommendations and software for road lighting design, this paper presents a corrected photopic luminance table, which enables lighting designers to use the existing design procedures and measurement methods until all of these tasks are accomplished. It is also shown that there are numerous reasons for the practical application of the CIE mesopic system, although only photopic vision is involved in on-axis object recognition. Using the corrected photopic luminance table, an analysis is conducted regarding the potential electricity and cost savings when applying white light sources, which are more visually effective in the mesopic range.

AB - Although possessing considerably better colour rendering and more acceptable colour appearance than high pressure sodium (HPS) lamps, for economic reasons metal halide (MH) lamps are still rarely considered in road lighting. The results Of previous theoretical and experimental research in the field of mesopic vision encouraged a comprehensive techno-economic analysis which compared financially road lighting solutions realized by MH and HPS lamps. Based on previous findings regarding both perceived brightness and visual performance, the analysis considered all relevant road lighting classes, lighting arrangements and reflection classes. It was proved that for lighting classes characterized by lower luminance levels MH lamps are economically comparative or even more favourable than HPS lamps.

This paper offers a set of the most important recommendations regarding the relevant influencing factors for energy savings in street lighting, the majority of which represent the results and conclusions of original research. Recommendations which result from user needs and regard visual quality are also briefly presented. Taking all of these recommendations into account provides improvement of appearance and sense of security, as well as energy and cost savings.

Lighting in the urban context case study: Exterior decorative lighting of St. Marko's Church in Belgrade

AB - In the past few years more attention has been devoted to exterior decorative lighting in Belgrade. Unfortunately, illuminance is very often the only quality factor for lighting design. Lighting quality is a broader concept than illuminance (quantity of light), determined by a number of factors out of which some can and others cannot be quantitatively determined. Buildings and spaces with urban, architectural and/or style values impose certain requests for lighting design, which can either emphasize or degrade these values. The lighting designer has the obligation to respond to the imposed requests and in this way support the building concept, as well as its role in the urban context. Various possibilities of artificial lighting enable better, more effective and more interesting impressions of buildings than experienced in daylight conditions. Some of the significant possibilities of artificial lighting, which can satisfy requests imposed by urban architectural or style elements, include: The possibility to emphasize elements of style, building details or ornaments, which resemble the most important values on a building or facade. This enables elements of exceptional value to be clearly noticeable (in a greater extent than in daylight conditions); Decorative lighting allows the possibility of presenting the hierarchy of architectural or style elements, which is a contribution to the emphasis of the main idea and building spirit; ® The possibility to emphasize proportions and/or balance of the facade, making solids and voids clearly distinctive; If emphasis of the building concept is the lighting aim, it is possible to realize different impressions from the ones experienced in daylighting (lighting the facade plane which is drawn in and remains in the shadow during the day); When lighting modern architecture, decorative lighting has the possibility to promote the main idea, emphasizing proportions, valuable building parts and/or the rhythm of the facade; Glass facades in daylight conditions reflect the surroundings creating an attractive effect, especially due to the intensity and color change of daylight. In night conditions, glass facades are adequate for negative lighting, enabling the transformation of the facade into a transparent surface exhibiting the building interior. St. Marko's Church in Belgrade is chosen as a case study, due to the fact that the quality of its exterior decorative lighting provided this building an attractive night presentation, strengthened its role as a city landmark and its significance in the panoramic view of the city. The range of possibilities, which can contribute to the presentation, and significance of a building in an urban context are presented through an analysis of different factors, which influenced the quality of exterior decorative lighting of St. Marko's Church. Excellent lighting quality was achieved through lamp color appearance and rendering, as well as through the position of the luminaries. The lighting rhythm follows the rhythm of the facade and allows moderate contrasts. Particular spot lighting is devoted to highly valuable details. The result is a luminance distribution which contributes in great deal to the recognition and expression of the building, as well as to the visual comfort of the observers. The dynamic expression and rhythm, which represent the two main characteristics of the facade of St. Marko's Church, are stressed by warm color of light and adequate luminance distribution on surfaces different in value. Dome lighting, greatly important for the panoramic view of St. Marko's Church, contributes as much to its experience from the immediate surroundings, as well as from the street view. The decorative lighting of St. Marko's Church represents a contribution to its appearance and the presentation of its architecture.

AB - The following report is a result of research regarding the state of the existing installations in Serbian apartment, as to determine the problems and direct the possibilities of development. The analytical part of the research is based on the data received from the Statistical Bureau of Serbia, gained by the 2002 population register (which did not include Kosovo and Metohija). Most of the relevant data is devoted to the water and sewage installations in apartments, and less research (due to a smaller amount of relevant data) was devoted to electrical installations and heating. The results point out that the problems in this area are a result of poor infrastructure development in Serbia. They also point out significant differences between the development of cities versus non-urban areas. An infrastructure development plan is necessary in order to solve the significant problems existing in this area, including a rapid development plan for non-urban areas in Serbia. .

AB - The quality of the sewage and drainage networks design as a special phase in the design process of all architectural buildings has influence on the quality and duration, as well as on the functional and aesthetic value of every building. Generations of professors at the University of Belgrade set the design methodology of sewage and drainage networks in buildings in such a way so that this phase of design is compatible and cooperative through the whole design process, from the very first general idea to the very last detail important in all building designs. .
