AB - This review study, framed in the Work group 4 “Photovoltaic in built environment” within the COST Action PEARL PV, CA16235, aims to examine applications of integrated and applied photovoltaic technologies on ten landmark buildings characterised by distinctive geometries, highlighting the aesthetics of their architecture and quality of PV integration based on a proposed set of seven criteria. The selected building samples cover a large design diversity related to the quality of PV systems integration into building envelope that could serve as a basis for general guidelines of best architectural and technological practice. After introducing the problem and defining the research methodology, an analysis of ten landmark buildings is presented, as representative models of aesthetics of their architecture, photovoltaic integration and implementation and energy performance. The study concludes with the main characteristics of photovoltaic integration on landmark buildings. The paper is intended to support both engineers and architects in comprehending the convergent development of contemporary architecture and photovoltaic technology, as well as the need for a closer collaboration, sometimes resulting in architectural masterworks that promote the diffusion of photovoltaics to the public.

AB - This paper presents the energy balance, architectural design features and cost aspects of 24
building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) projects in three different contexts, namely BIPV in residential,
office and historical buildings. These BIPV projects have been modelled and evaluated for different
geographic locations because the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (2018/844/EU)
has resulted in country-specific regulations and situations aimed towards the reduction in energy
consumption, and hence the CO2 emissions of built environments. Moreover, the geographical
variation of irradiation affects the performance of different BIPV projects on different locations.
The results of our study show that the return of investment of BIPV projects across 12 countries
took (on average) 13.3 years. Furthermore, the residential projects —as compared to non-residential
buildings—were mostly energy plus buildings with an average self-sufficiency of 110% due to their
low energy consumption. In conclusion, most BIPV projects resulted in realistic energy performances
(on average: 761 kWh/kWp.year), low payback times (10 years for residential and office buildings),
and modelled unique design features.

AB - The paper systematizes geometric aspects relevant for understanding design of solar systems. The systematization is based on a review of literature dedicated to various kinds of engineers, including architects, involved in a multidisciplinary process of conceptualizing, designing and realization of PV systems. The understanding of the presented geometric aspects, known as solar geometry, is important not only in terms of finding optimal orientation and most effective tilt of solar modules, but also in terms of adequate geometric modelling of façade elements of a complex shape (as specific photovoltaic modules) in order to be optimally exposed to the sun all over the year. After providing detailed explanations of the main elements of solar geometry using the tools of spherical trigonometry, the paper discusses the integration of the presented geometric concepts in the BIM environments, and refers the example of Autodesk Revit software through its sun study tool. Analysed are functionalities of all interactive components of the 3D solar path representation. A need for more explicit determination of an incidence angle of the sun rays on a tilted surface is stressed. In the conclusion highlighted is the essential knowledge on solar geometry that needs to be acquired during architectural education, so that architects participating in the BIM working environments could be prepared for efficient conceptualization of integrated solar systems.

AB - The aim of the research is to investigate the current developments in the use of textile membranes
in architecture. More precicely this research is focused on usage of textile membrane structures
in refurbishment of built heritage.
The main goal of the application of this type of structures is reafirmation of built heritage. The
idea is based on using this space for open air theaters and music events.
This research looks into options to find solutions which enable afirmation of historical places and
their new further usage by aplicating textile membrane structures. This will be done through
the following objectives: 1. defining textile membrane structures and other terms and concepts
important for understanding the research, 2. a historical overview of the beginning of the use
of membrane structures in refurbishment of built heritage, 3. defining set of requirements
that these structures in refurbishment of built heritage have to carry out, 4. case studies, 5.
systematization of applied materials, 6. systematization of textile membrane structures.
This would be 3-part research: 1. research of textile membrane structures and it’s application,
resulting with tipology of textile structures, 2. research of principles of built heritage protection
and presentation, resulting with set of requirements that textile membrane structure should
carry out, 3. case studies. This research is completed with examples of application of this
structures in Serbia in the context of built heritage protection and presentation.

for covering ancient sites in order to present mosaics in situ are discussed in the paper. The
distinction between the two concepts of coverage is taken into consideration. The first concept
is based on covering the site using protective structure without closing the space, while the
second concept implies covering the site by forming a closed space. The subject of this paper
is a comparative analysis of two case studies that represent the two concepts of covering the
archaeological area in order to protect and present mosaics in situ. This analysis will examine
the applied concepts, technical solutions, used materials and structures to cover the site. The
aim of the study is to identify the advantages and disadvantages of the solutions, as well as to
determine whether their performance has resulted in the devastation of the site or contributed
to its higher quality presentation.

AB - Through consideration of the built heritage in terms of biophilic characteristics, different
approaches and elements of establishing a relationship to nature can be recognized, which in
different ways evolved depending on location, climate, social and cultural conditions. The paper
discusses some elements of biophilic design as well as their expression in architectural creation,
with an emphasis on highlighting elements of biophilic design in architectural heritage. The
importance of connecting people with nature and the need for this connection to be realized
for people in urban areas is indicated by numerous papers that prove that nature has a positive
effect on the quality of work, education, health, recreation, housing and others. Nowadays, man
is more and more alienated from nature by using modern technology to make his life and work
easier. New technologies are increasingly represented in our lives, so our built environment has
changed very dynamically in the 20th century, as well as at the beginning of the 21st century.
Since there is an adverse effect on the physical, psychological and health condition of man, the
experience and skills arising from the architectural heritage are becoming increasingly important
in order to overcome the problems. This paper presents a brief overview of papers that consider
the impact of urban environment on human well-being, as well as studies that address the topic
of biophilia as an approach dealing with the need of man to be in a natural environment. The
aim of the paper is to indicate that the appreciation of the experience and skills arising from the
architectural heritage can provide better places in the future and human well-being.

AB - Energy efficiency is one of the main requirements that buildings must satisfy nowadays, both when designing new buildings or when major renovation takes place. The main issues that need to be considered in designing energy efficient buildings are: reduction of energy consumption generated from fossil fuels and reduction of environment pollution. Building envelope is the most responsible architectural element of the building that impacts thermal comfort and energy balance. Besides thermal properties of the envelope, equipment for heating, cooling and lighting influence largely on energy consumption in buildings. From the design point of view, the analysis of various facade scenarios, in terms of their contribution to reducing energy consumption, is crucial and necessary for each specific case and climate. This paper presents the estimation of energy performances of different scenarios of the hypothetical models of façade design, in case of an office building in Belgrade climate conditions. For the analysis, the model of the typical office was created and three various facade concepts were applied. Methodological approach entails three steps: design of different facade concepts - models, numerical energy simulations of the models and comparison of the results. For each of the three shading concepts, the following scenarios have been created: the basic scenario without shadings, and three scenarios of different facade design solutions related to types of shading devices. Assessment of the scenarios includes consideration of energy demands for heating and cooling, reduction of energy consumption for cooling by implementation of different shading devices and comparison of the results. The results of the simulations show how much the various alternatives of shadings contribute to the reduction of total energy demands, and how much the application of shadings affects the reduction of environmental pollution. The design method, as well as the results, can generally be applicable for the design of new and renovation of existing office buildings, both in Belgrade and in places with similar climatic conditions.

AB - The subject of this paper is multi-criteria analysis of the selection of the best group of measures
for energy efficiency improvement of multifamily housing. Selection of the optimal sets of
measures for energy efficiency improvement is made on the basis of multi-criteria optimization
using the method of multi-criteria compromise ranking of alternative solutions - AHP method
(Analytical Hierarchical Process). The goal of the analysis is to select the best combination of
measures for energy renewal of the existing building, or the best variant of a series of offered
favourable variants in terms of adopted criteria and defined limitations. For the purpose of energy
renewal of the existing building and according to recommendations of national regulations,
five measures for energy efficiency improvement was adopted. The measures include the
thermal performances improvement of non-transparent and transparent parts of the thermal
envelope of the building and the use of renewable energy sources, respectively integration of
solar thermal collectors into the building envelope. For multi-criteria optimization, a set of the
following five criteria is adopted, according to which alternatives are evaluated: annual final
energy consumption for heating; annual primary energy consumption for heating; annual CO2
emissions; investment costs for energy renovation of buildings and return period of investment
means. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the efficacy of AHP method in practice when is
necessary to reach an optimal decision in selecting the best measures for improving the energy
performance of buildings. Finally, ranking of alternatives is done according to selected scenarios
of different combinations of criteria weight.

AB - Several suburban settlements had been built in Belgrade after the World War II. In that time, a
few prefabricated systems were mostly in use in our country which resulted in housing settlements
consisting of numerous buildings with the same or similar layouts. They are all characterized
by poor energy performance causing high energy consumption (for heating and cooling)
and CO2 emissions. One of the examples of such architecture is the Konjarnikhousing settlement.
Different scenarios-hypothetical models for the energy performance improvement of the
envelope of the central block of the prefabricated multifamily building in Konjarnik are created.
The design of improvements of the envelope of the existing buildings is created according to
Belgrade’s climatic conditions, building orientation and technical characteristics of the building
structure. The assessment of the reduction in energy consumption for space heating and thus
the reduction of CO2 emissions has been carried out in the paper. Methodological approach
entails the following steps: creation of models of the improvement of existing buildings, consideration
of the results of thermodynamic simulations of energy performances of the modelsin
terms of energy consumption and CO2 emissions, and comparison of the results (models).

AB - The contemporary 4R concept of waste management, in accordance with the globally spread trend of sustainability, promotes: reducing the amount of waste at the source, reusing of elements and their parts, recycling in order to produce raw material and recovering of the embodied energy. Discarded bricks from building demolition sites considered in this research could be reused, but also crushed in appropriate facilities and employed as aggregate in various cement composites. This paper investigates the possibility of using such recycled crushed clay brick material as aggregate in a prefabricated composite façade panel with the face of stone, which can be used in a ventilated façade system. It describes the production process of a pilot element, and further suggests the details of the façade cladding technology concerning the proposed element, i.e. its production technology options, as well as transport and installation technologies. The paper further displays various design possibilities of the panel closely related to the production technology options, as well as observed aspects of sustainability and cost effectiveness relevant to the application of the proposed façade panel. The research contributes to the contemporary course of sustainability within the construction industry by proposing an example of forming a new prefabricated building element using recycled building demolition waste material.

AB - This paper analyses annual energy performance of atrium type hotel building in Belgrade. The objective is to examine the impact of the atrium on the hotel building's energy demands for space heating and cooling. Integrated approach through numerical simulations that include Belgrade climate data and thermal comfort parameters, indicates an optimal model of hotel building with atrium for this area. Building energy simulation is carried out using EnergyPlus simulation engine, as a basic tool in the process of building energy optimization. The methodological approach includes the creation of a hypothetical model of an atrium type hotel building, numerical simulation of energy performances of several design alternatives of the hotel building with atrium, and comparative analysis of the obtained results. The main task of analysis is to change certain parameters in the particular model (for example, building structure, orientation, etc.) and to observe how the changes influence energy performance of the building. The goal of this research is to show that the atrium contributes to the heating and cooling energy savings in the rest of the building, but also that the atrium itself demands a lot of energy for its air-conditioning. The most sustainable solution should be to cover energy demands for atrium by using the renewable energy sources. In this case, the atrium can contribute to the energy efficiency of the hotel building in Belgrade climatic conditions, thus reducing its negative impact on the environment.

AB - New technologies offer us amazing opportunities for the progress of cognitive forms of learning,
because they provide a virtual way of observation of the world around us. The concept of
cognitive city, as an idea, enables to take advantage of new technologies and their availability in
all spheres of society. Health promotion and disease prevention is possible to conduct through
the enlightenment of children, youth and people. The program of prevention of human health
should be presented in an interesting, user-friendly and modern way. In that sense, an option is as
a separate subject or as part of some broader themes in the concept of cognitive cities. For the
strategy and the concept of enlightenment, it is necessary to be adapted to the new trends of
contemporary strategies of development of urban areas and updated according to the needs of
target groups. In addition to providing information, tools are needed that would measure the
interest of the people in the topics of health programs with the aim of achieving better results.
This paper will indicate the possibilities offered by new technologies implemented as tools for
health promotion and disease prevention in the idea of the concept of cognitive cities. The use of
multimedia content with the help of new technologies implemented in the concept of cognitive
cities can in plastic and entertaining way show the terms and conditions for the use of preventive
measures, and why we use them.

AB - Amelioration of indoor comfort for the building occupants, reduction in energy consumption and
carbon dioxide emissions can be achieved with application an adaptive building envelope in new
and old buildings.
Nowadays, there is a lack of methods for predicting and evaluating the performance of the
adaptive building envelop at component and whole building scale. Also there is a need for
guidance on how to model the adaptive envelope system and how to simulate one in a suitable
way.
The aim of the paper is to review the existing literature and projects on methods, techniques and
strategies for the adaptive envelope performance assessment in the early phase of the design (in
scope Computer-Aided Architectural Design - CAAD).
Authors are currently carrying out a classification, critical and comparative analysis of the
existing simulation and modelling approaches for the adaptive façade with focus on the design of
exterior shading systems. After the aforementioned analysis they have implemented workflow
proposed on a case study.
The case study is discussed to show how the method proposed and based on digital tools can be
applied. Numerical simulation is conducted to predict and to evaluate performance and possible
energy reduction application the adaptive exterior shading system. In this case geometry and
material characteristics of shade systems are investigated in relation to daylight and light
performance of indoor space.

AB - The purpose of this paper is to present a case of an office building and show how different concepts of envelope construction affect the energy efficiency of building. Assessment of energy performances of different scenarios of the hypothetical models of the office building in the central zone of Belgrade is the aim of this research. A few scenarios are created for each hypothetical model: basic scenario and scenarios of two shading devices types in order contribution to reduction of cooling demands to be estimated. The office building scenarios are modelled and analysed by using PHPP'2007 software to estimate heat and cooling energy demands. Also, CO2 emissions are discussed. Comparative analysis of the results highlights the advantages and disadvantages of the treated models and scenarios of office building envelope construction. Findings indicate the preferable solutions and highlight methodological approach in the office building envelope design, which has not yet been adopted extensively in practice in our country. Methodological approach and findings can generally be applicable for new office building design, both in Belgrade and in the similar climatic conditions. The paper demonstrates various feasible solutions of office building envelope construction that might help comply with the regulation.

AB - This paper assesses the potential of historical industrial buildings to be reused as office spaces. Belgrade’s industrial heritage has been classified according to the criteria that influence visual comfort, including glazing area, floor depth, and orientation. Daylight performance of two representative buildings has been analyzed using daylight factor, point in time illuminance and spatial daylight autonomy. Potential improvement strategies that would not have a negative impact on the historical character of buildings have then been discussed. Further studies include increased internal surface reflectance and introduction of roof-lights. The impact of roof-lights on the annual cooling and heating load has been addressed in parallel. Since LEED is the dominant sustainability assessment tool in Serbia, preliminary compliance with LEED v4 Daylight credit has been assessed for all options. The methodology and findings can be applied to a wide range of industrial buildings in similar climatic conditions.
Količina prirodne svetlosti je analizirana korišćenjem faktora dnevne osvetljenosti (daylight factor), nivoa osvetljenosti (point in time illuminance) i prostorne autonomije dnevne svetlosti (spatial daylight autonomy).

AB - The subject of the paper is retrofitting of suburban multifamily buildings built in
the late fifties and early sixties at Karaburma, Belgrade. According to the data
collected by Serbia Statistical Office, about 55 percent of the existing housing units
in Belgrade were built during the sixties and seventies and they were designed
without consideration of energy demands and consumption. The same problem is
present in the case of Karaburma settlement. Buildings were in poor condition until
the retrofitting in 2009.
The retrofitting was carried out on a significant number of buildings and still takes
place in the settlement. The main retrofitting objectives are: the identification of
housing typologies related to new user’s needs, the complying with new technical
regulations in terms of energy efficiency and accessibility for disables. The
retrofitting concept was aimed to improve living comfort, especially thermal
comfort, in order to achieve energy savings and healthier environments.
Solutions for the retrofitting are shown in the paper. The improvement of living
comfort and building appearance was achieved by annex of attics, addition of
balconies as new structures and organized closing (glazing) of balconies, as well
as by laying of thermal insulation on the facade surface and it’s painting in
different colors resulting in housing diversity.
The benefits are in improving energy performances of the buildings and living
conditions generally. The results show that significant energy savings and
reduction of CO2 emissions can be obtained with different and simple retrofitting
measures.

employees, while preserving their health. Majority of the employees spend most of
the day in the office. Workspaces greatly affect the psychological well-being and
activities and abilities of employees. Health of employees, which directly affects
productivity, is conditioned by the office type. The main objective of this paper is
to show the influence of innovative office space design on the employees’ health
and to highlight the harmful environmental factors that affect human health. The
findings of this study show that office design is very vital in terms of causing or
preventing physiological and psychological reactions. Functional features of
various types of offices have a different effect on the employee’s ability to perform
the personal control. In the case of different types of offices, there are different
perceptions of stress in men and women. Some negative health outcomes, like
stress, decreasing ability of personal control and TMD-related symptoms are
considered.

AB - The subject of this research is the Life cycle costs analysis of the building in order to evaluate the economic efficiency and cost-effectiveness of investments in various variants of application of active solar systems in aim to achieve the reduction of energy consumption and environmental pollution. Different variants of solar thermal collector’s application to the existing prefabricated residential building in the settlement Konjarnik in Belgrade, Serbia, are considered from the economic point of view. Cost-effectiveness and feasibility of various scenarios of energy optimization achieved by application of solar thermal collectors into the building envelope are evaluated on the basis of final energy consumption (within the EU-ISO standards). The methodological approach involves the analysis of the costs of energy consumption for water heating, financial analysis of costs and savings over the life cycle of the existing building in case of solar thermal collectors’ application to the building envelope as well as a comparative analysis of achieved results. Criteria for the economic analysis include the amount of investment, energy costs and life cycle costs of the building. According to the adopted criteria, the most suitable models are selected. This methodological approach is generally applicable in the analysis of investments in improvement of building energy performances, while possible technical solutions and the resulting economic benefits must be carefully considered.

AB - The subject of this research is the Life cycle costs analysis of the building in order to assess the economic efficiency and cost‐effectiveness of investments in various variants of application of active solar systems in aim to achieve a reduction of energy consumption and environmental pollution. Different variants of solar thermal collector’s application to the existing prefabricated residential building in the settlement Konjarnik in Belgrade, Serbia, are considered from the economic point of view. Cost‐effectiveness and feasibility of various scenarios of energy optimization achieved by application of solar thermal collectors into the building envelope are evaluated on the basis of final energy consumption (within the EU‐ISO standards). The methodological approach involves the analysis of the costs of energy consumption for sanitary hot water preparation, financial analysis of costs and cost savings throughout the lifecycle of the existing building in case of application of solar thermal collectors’ on the building envelope, as well as a comparative analysis of obtained results. Criteria for the economic analysis include the amount of investment, energy costs and life‐cycle costs of the building. According to the adopted criteria, the most suitable models are selected. This methodological approach is generally applicable in the analysis of investments in improvement of building energy performances, while possible technical solutions and the resulting economic benefits must be carefully considered.
