AB  - Cet article analyse le concept de Das Unheimliche linquiétante etran-geté] que Freud utilise pour décrire une étrange proximité entre le connu et l'inconnu, que ce soit quand quelque chose de connu se représente sous une forme étrangère ou quand quelque chose d'étranger en soi révèle un élément d'intimité. Freud a présenté ce concept en 1919 dans son texte Das Unheimliche en se référant aux cas où un sujet en relation avec des objets ou des événements éprouve des sentiments qui vont de la proximité habituelle jusqu'à un point de perception totalement automatisée, lorsqu'un objet ou un événement apparaît étrange. L'automatisme de la répétition n'est qu'une des manifestations de Das Unheimliche.

Postavka je bila realizovana u mediju instalacije koja je sadržala uvećani model kuće za lutke u razmeri 1:12. Кasnija izlaganja su sadžala i fotografije, projekcije i objekte. Кnjiga je nastavak ovog projekta.
Publikacija sadrži tekstove autorki i fotografije projekta. Кao takva, knjiga jeste interdisciplinarna naučna analiza umetničkih praksi Mariele Cvetić a u  širem smislu reč je o interdisciplinarnoj raspravi o problemima savremene umetnosti, odnosno prepletima vizuelnih umetnosti, arhitekture i savremene teorije umetnosti.

Public Monuments in Contemporary Belgrade: Between Stumbling Blocs and Invisibility

AB  - This essay is an analysis of monuments and memorial locations in Serbia, particularly in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, during the contemporary transition phase. Estethical and artistic, but also political side of these monuments and their role in the early 21st century society is being observed in the paper. The research looks into the history of the monuments on the territory of Belgrade and explores the states of the monument heritage from the previous (socialist) period of the second half of the 20th century and cases of demolishing or replacing monuments with those ideologically relevant later on. The paper includes mapping of the new monuments built in memory of the unsettled disintegration of SFRJ during the 1990s as well as their urban context. It also looks for the reasons of non-existence of so called counter-monuments or participatory monuments in Belgrade and for building of a larger number of classical statues. It has been concluded that the monuments in Belgrade became the ‘stumbling stone’ of every constructive analysis and criticism of the urbanities and their memorial places, but at the same time ‘invisible’ not only in the way described by Robert Musil. Amongst these two determinants, the public monuments in Belgrade built in the beginning of the 21st century have been observed here.

AB  - The aim of the essay to represent the work of women architects in Serbia through contemporary feminist theories. It uses the wide range of research about women in Serbian architecture, their background, the institutions they worked in, their buildings, their pedagogical work etc. The text is compared with some elements of Linda Nochlin “Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?” and reaches to find out similarities and differences between positions of the women as architects and women as other visual artists. Also, this text tries to find out the connection between the women architect’s background and their position as architect in Serbian society and tries to point out that the valorization of their work in past was in direct connection with the latter fact and needs new critical readings through contemporary feminist theories.

Experience and Theory in Architectural Design: Digital Chain Case

AB  - The aim of this paper is to research the impact to emerging theory based on the relation between architect and his work in digital approach of the process of design and realization by the principle of Digital Chain. 
Digital Chain is an uninterruptible digital process consisting of design (idea, coding, geometry finding), through construction (structure, junction, prototyping) to production (fabrication) with every step as programmed entity connected by CAAD/CAM technology universal interfaces. The term Digital Chain is defined and researched (theoretically, experimentally and practically) by CAAD Chair at ETHZ within research projects of this institute. Digital Chain is not a continuous one without the role and position of architect as fluid energy and expert that investigates how digital technology is changing, i.e. entire process of chain, simultaneously adapting to it. 
In that sense architecture appears as an open work (Umberto Eco) without final definitions and in a constant process of information motion as the main components of the architectural product caused by the demands of context, function, form and the user input. Testing of design code through changes of parameters in iterations, as well as checks in prototype on the next level, makes the theoretical playground between experiment and experience, through education and expertise. It is an example that the interest for the process (performance) was larger than for the representation (appearance) what Deleuze and Guattari call supremacy of the "Gothic spirit" over the "spirit of Romanesque" or "classical spirit", where Gothic deals with the generation of the Gothic architecture by understanding the forces, trends and behavior of the material from the bottom to up, but, contrary to the classic generation that deals with imposing of visual aspects such as the proportion of top-down.
This paper considers experience i.e. posteriori knowledge as the main driver of the emerging theory of the Digital Chain.

Das Unheimliche And Women: The Case of “The Tales of Hoffmann”

AB  - This paper analyses Freud’s concept of Das Unheimliche used to describe a strange proximity between the known and the unknown, whether as something acquainted represents itself with an extraneous shape or as something extraneous discovers an element of intimacy in itself. Freud inaugurated this concept in the text Das Unheimliche in 1919 referring to cases in which the subject in relation to objects or events has feelings that range from usual closeness to the point of utter automated perception, when an object or event appears strange. The automatism of repetition is only one of manifestations of Das Unheimliche.
Freud wrote this text responding to the text by Ernest Jentsch’s “On the Psychology of Des Unheimlichen” (“Uber die Psychologie des Unheimlichen”) from 1906 arguing on the importance and significance of the doll Olympia in Hoffmann’s story “The Sandman”. The position of Olympia – whether she was seen as alive or as a machine – remained the main issue in late discussions of various authors. Therefore, Das Unheimliche and women are very closely related, not only because the concept is based on the female character of Olympia from the story, but also because Freud himself emphasized the Das Unheimliche character of the female body.
The paper discusses the relation between Das Unheimliche and women, and reconsiders the relation between Das Unheimliche aspects of female characters in The Tales of Hoffmann. Short stories “The Sandman”, “Councillor Krespel” and “A New Year’s Eve Adventure” were also chosen by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré for the opera “Tales of Hoffmann” by Jacques Offenbach, in which the leading roles of Stela, Olympia, Antonia and Giulietta are in fact one woman who takes a variety of forms.

abstract = "This paper analyses Freud’s concept of Das Unheimliche used to describe a strange proximity between the known and the unknown, whether as something acquainted represents itself with an extraneous shape or as something extraneous discovers an element of intimacy in itself. Freud inaugurated this concept in the text Das Unheimliche in 1919 referring to cases in which the subject in relation to objects or events has feelings that range from usual closeness to the point of utter automated perception, when an object or event appears strange. The automatism of repetition is only one of manifestations of Das Unheimliche.
Freud wrote this text responding to the text by Ernest Jentsch’s “On the Psychology of Des Unheimlichen” (“Uber die Psychologie des Unheimlichen”) from 1906 arguing on the importance and significance of the doll Olympia in Hoffmann’s story “The Sandman”. The position of Olympia – whether she was seen as alive or as a machine – remained the main issue in late discussions of various authors. Therefore, Das Unheimliche and women are very closely related, not only because the concept is based on the female character of Olympia from the story, but also because Freud himself emphasized the Das Unheimliche character of the female body.
The paper discusses the relation between Das Unheimliche and women, and reconsiders the relation between Das Unheimliche aspects of female characters in The Tales of Hoffmann. Short stories “The Sandman”, “Councillor Krespel” and “A New Year’s Eve Adventure” were also chosen by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré for the opera “Tales of Hoffmann” by Jacques Offenbach, in which the leading roles of Stela, Olympia, Antonia and Giulietta are in fact one woman who takes a variety of forms.",

AB  - The text „Das Unheimliche: Psychoanalytical and Cultural Theories of Space“ examines and analyses connotations of the term Das Unheimliche in the field of visual arts, rather the connotations of all the term implications regarded to visual arts’ space characteristics. Therefore, the first aim of this research was to detect historical derivation of this concept that has always been marginal, side-ward concept in psycho-analysis, and for many theorists and researchers valueless and minor to be occupied with.  
Early research development comprehend the whole one hundred years history of this concept based on fact that it is constructed on equivalence of its denotation and connotation and that it exists due to the courtesy of its name Das Unheimliche (in German), fortunately for concept and its subsequential that Freud himself introduced, although he was not the first one. Even though different languages have their own translations, here it is used in the German original. The work is trying to illustrate a psycho-analyst history of this concept, and on the basis of it and of theories regarded to space, psycho-analysis and theoretical psycho-analysis, recommend the path of psycho-analyst reading of the concept in art works of the authors that are interfered in space issues. Chosen authors and their art works are offered as case studies making available to see the effect (appearance) of Das Unheimliche right in the eye of correlation of an psycho- analyst and Lacanly defined subject with space (space of art or art work). Case studies are not chosen simply by the artist and his work, but are based on the typology that is established so that the different relatives between Das Unheimliche and certain theoretical phenomena can be seen: the first is concerned with determined homonyms of special type: Das Heim and Das Unheimliche that are manifested through dissimilar interpretations of the motive of the house; the second is about the relationship between an aura and Das Unheimliche; the third is about political capacities that are conceded by this concept, and the last – fourth is about subversion and Das Unheimliche through historically distant examples.

Therefore, the first aim of this research was to detect historical derivation of this concept that has always been marginal, side-ward concept in psycho-analysis, and for many theorists and researchers valueless and minor to be occupied with.  
Early research development comprehend the whole one hundred years history of this concept based on fact that it is constructed on equivalence of its denotation and connotation and that it exists due to the courtesy of its name Das Unheimliche (in German), fortunately for concept and its subsequential that Freud himself introduced, although he was not the first one. Even though different languages have their own translations, here it is used in the German original. The work is trying to illustrate a psycho-analyst history of this concept, and on the basis of it and of theories regarded to space, psycho-analysis and theoretical psycho-analysis, recommend the path of psycho-analyst reading of the concept in art works of the authors that are interfered in space issues. Chosen authors and their art works are offered as case studies making available to see the effect (appearance) of Das Unheimliche right in the eye of correlation of an psycho- analyst and Lacanly defined subject with space (space of art or art work). Case studies are not chosen simply by the artist and his work, but are based on the typology that is established so that the different relatives between Das Unheimliche and certain theoretical phenomena can be seen: the first is concerned with determined homonyms of special type: Das Heim and Das Unheimliche that are manifested through dissimilar interpretations of the motive of the house; the second is about the relationship between an aura and Das Unheimliche; the third is about political capacities that are conceded by this concept, and the last – fourth is about subversion and Das Unheimliche through historically distant examples.",

AB  - The procession from the response, that comes in the form of concept, to the entitled exposition theme, via the materialization of that concept in the given or chosen exposition area (technical representation), up to the exhibition realization leads over the numerous accompanying activities that include informative propaganda, the activities concerning the preview and publishing catalogue as an advertising, scientific and educative instrument of the exhibition. The intention of this work is to point at some segments of that general trajectory at the example of Serbian pavilion in Venice biennale of architecture 2008.

AB  - This paper reconsiders the relation established between (the
architectural) space – the house and the woman in it, or versus it.
Such a relationship is projected through visual arts, as is evident
in the examples of the selected case studies. The objective of this
thesis is to elaborate upon the idea that contemporary women
authors use “their house” as the topic of inspiration behind
works, which are quite often reminiscences of the emotional
spectrum they lived during their own childhood. Furthermore, it
also shows that through those works they establish their personal
attitude towards the notion of “house” in general. The starting
point of this paper is based on the theoretical views of Griselde
Pollock ,a feminist critic and theoretician of visual arts, and her
analyses of “the space of femininity” and the women artists in
modernism.
