AB - The paper presents an overview of the results based on the integration of traditional (analogue) and instrumental (digital) methods of heritage surveying. The thematic framework was stimulated by participation at the professional workshop in Lizori, in Italy, held in June 2018.. This specific methodological framework of integrated research, uses different tools, in the function of morphological specifications of different parts of a historical building. The very nature of architectural heritage requires the integration of different methods in order to achieve an adequate level of accuracy. The project of digitization of the Lizori village aims to present, on the one hand, an almost unknown historical heritage through multimedia presentation, and on the other hand, set up an information tool for restoration, maintenance and valorization.
AB - Rad predstavlja prikaz rezultata zasnovanog na integraciji tradicionalnih (analognih) i instrumentalnih (digitalnih) metoda snimanja nasleđa.

AB - The importance of aesthetics within architecture has a long history. Although evidence suggests that the term was not brought into the place of architectural writing until 17351, the place of aesthetics can be identified across architectural theory and philosophy since the time of Vitruvius. Developing an aesthetic sensibility was seen as crucial for an architect and the study of architecture was understood through the three Vitruvian lenses (utlitas, firmitas, venustas) one of which, venustas, is directly associated with aesthetics. This paper responds to the current and ongoing discussions between architects, architectural educators and architectural students on the role of aesthetics in architectural education and professional practice today. It was initially inspired by questions raised at the 2017 and 2018 annual conferences of the Society of Architectural Historians (SAH 2017 and 2018) about the role of architectural history in architectural design and practice today, and in line with this, questions about place of aesthetics in architectural education. This paper considers the place of aesthetics in architectural education and provides a detailed overview of the key pedagogical interventions undertaken in one architectural studies programme which might serve as a guide for educators interested in maintaining the place of aesthetics in contemporary architectural education. It suggests that aesthetics can continue to play a key role in the architectural curriculum whilst a focus on design problem-solving and achieving the contemporary educational requirements of accreditation is maintained.

AB - Although numerous writings by professor Aleksandar Deroko raise essential questions about the nature, the history, and the methodology of architecture, he never provided a systematic theory, and his assertions did not belong to any mainstream architectural discourse. However, his romantic visions of remote, medieval monasteries and their origin on one hand, and on the other, the rational and methodical approach to heritage surveying evident in both his early texts and later architectural textbooks, resulted in some very novel theoretical ideas in architecture of the twentieth century. This paper examines the understanding of the tradition and modernity in the work of professor Deroko, investigates reasons behind his duality, explores the way he synthesised his research work with his pedagogical work, and tries to systematise his theoretical ideas.

AB - This paper has emerged from a belief in the importance of architectural history for modern architectural practice and the education of young architects today. It proposes an alternative teaching approach in which theory-based and studio-based methodology are interconnected and mutually challenged to communicate heritage in the most beneficial way. The approach attempts to avoid communicating basic descriptive facts, but is rather based on the interpretation of theoretical knowledge through individual designs, and provokes discussions questioning universal messages of architecture through individual spatial solutions. It was introduced at the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade, through the elective course New Reading of Architecture for the third-year students, in the school year of 2014/15 and 2015/16. Results show that critical thinking through designing, as opposed to the usual factual approach, met a favourable response from student. Both in architectural history and in designing for protected historical sites, having been made more historically aware and place-sensitive, they were actively encouraged to conduct research, and to define and shape their own design approach accordingly. It can be noted that experiencing the theory of architecture through critical reading of well-known treatises and exploring it through a design lens made the history of architecture an equal partner in the construction of the present.

AB - Taking into account the general suggestions and European standards in the field of education in conservation, at the Faculty of Architecture University of Belgrade in the recent years a series of students' projects has been carried out in order to investigate possibilities of protection, presentation and utilisation of historic sites. The idea was to broaden the students' knowledge and to educate them so that they could be able to solve complex issues while investigating, evaluating and renewing historic areas. This paper presents a one-semester work with students investigating renewal and modern utilisation potentials of the medieval Ottoman fortress Ram on the Danube bank (Serbia). The project empowered the students to be informed about: general methodology of the site condition valorisation; its character, significance and values; the destroyed buildings restoration and regeneration potentials; and 3D models implementation in assessing and comparing approaches to the protection and presentation. The historic and architectural analysis included several research stages of the origin and development of the fortress and data collection from various sources, archives and institutes. Conducting such research, the students were able to find out tangible and intangible characteristics and the basic architectural elements of the fortress and the surrounding buildings. Theory, investigation and education were complementary within the project, promoting an integrated approach in order to finding the most effective form of the historic site and its active inclusion in everyday life.

AB - The Regional Programme on Cultural and Natural Heritage in South East Europe
(RPSEE), supported by the European Commission, has been implemented since
2003 in Serbia. A part of the program is the Local Development Pilot Projects
(LDPP) focused on the Resava-Mlava pilot territory, the area located in the municipalities of Despotovac and Zagubica. The local authorities face long standing problems of unemployment and economic decline in this poor, underdeveloped region. People are completely discouraged and leave the country so that more and more buildings become abandoned. However, this territory has a great potential for development. The long-term historic relations of inter-cultural dialogue have led to creation of a unique culture in the region. Important cultural and natural heritage can be found in the territory, with cultural, architectural and natural heritage of outstanding value - such as medieval monasteries, rural houses, caves, forests, rivers, waterfalls and rare fauna and flora.
A new pro-active development strategy is implemented on the basis of the regional plan, in line with the communal and regional regulations, for a balanced economic development, attracting new investments, and for the rehabilitation of cultural heritage such as the Senje coal mine with a view to promoting cultural tourism. In
the research process of exploring and proposing new approaches and models for renewal and activation of natural and cultural heritage, the professors and students of the Faculty of Architecture University of Belgrade were involved. They proposed numerous new ideas of protection, renovation and reuse of natural and historical settings and buildings. The aim of their projects was to strengthen the awareness of the population of the heritage value as an important resource for future sustainable development, as well as to provide municipal authorities with new, fresh ideas that can connect heritage protection with improvement of living
condition.

AB - Symmetry is a word that appears in a variety of disciplines over a variety of ages,
carries many meanings and has always
been in direct relation to the most important notions which explain architectural creativity. Wide spectrum of situations with which the term symmetry can
be related to, shows the complexity of its
meaning. As in its meaning symmetry includes: idea of geometry of form, idea of
connection to the nature, simplicity,
scale and proportion, as well as according to relation which symmetry notion
possess to: the parts and the whole of
certain things, ordinance notion and hierarchy in architecture, geometry, measure and number in architecture, and architectural composition, it can be deduced that symmetry has one of the key
roles in creation of principles of modern
architecture of the XXth century. In that
way symmetry represents one of the
clearest index that many dimensions of
history of architecture, as well as the history of architectural theory, are timeless.
