AB - Previous subject-related research, that describes stylistic peculiarities of artefacts by taking into account their morphometric/geometric characteristics, explicates the results (used to differentiate them in terms of style they belong to) mainly descriptively – by evaluating the obtained data visually. The narrower aim of this Paper is to explicate the mentioned characteristics numerically/quantitatively by transposing stylistic-wise parameters (descriptors of fractal and non-fractal nature), previously investigated by the actual authors, into the form of dynamics of their values namely explicators. Therefore, the main research questions of this study are both how to express artefact morphology by using dynamics of its parameters and, thus, how to numerically/quantitatively identify architectural style concrete artefact belongs to. To achieve that scientifically, a triplet of capital samples (as the most distinctive elements among artefacts), namely their digital 3D models, are employed per each fundamental classical architectural order (Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian). The subject of this Paper is to establish relevant morphometric/geometric indicators not only in the form of explicators mentioned above, but qualifiers too, enabling so: to numerically express capital morphology, namely to quantitatively estimate levels of intra-similarity of capitals assumed to belong to the same order, and inter-dissimilarity of those assumed to belong to different ones. Both types of the established indicators refer to capital contours which are positioned in mutually equidistant transverse section planes (defined per each chosen capital sample of each of the analysed orders). The wider research aim refers to both: (a) a possibility to numerically/quantitatively identify order a concrete fragment of capital/artefact belongs to in terms of recognising it computationally (as confidently as possible from the mathematical probability point of view), and (b) to perform morphology-wise capital/artefact segmentation. Presented innovative methodology brings up a more reliable possibility to identify architectural order “stylistically unknown capital” belongs to – by using a newly introduced indicator (in the form of dynamics) to express its morphology numerically/quantitatively. Future research will be dealt with software-wise automation of stylistic decoding steps (rough capital classification and order-belonging estimation).

AB - The magic world of mirrors, their application, integration in interiors and exposure in exteriors, intrigues architectural designers and artists for a long time. Inspired with wide recent usages of mirrors in innovative architectural designs practice, as well as in arts, and grounded our understanding on well-known geometric/optic principles of mirroring, the authors conceptualized a Workshop that was offered to students of architecture, forestry and applied arts, as an extracurricular two-weeks activity. After briefly introducing a historical/chronological overview of mirrors application in architectural design practice and applied art, relevant theoretical aspects of mirroring were demonstrated on the Workshop. The participating students were offered two possibilities for integration of mirrors in their design-outcomes: to experiment with analogue models and digital/computing ones. For that reason, a large amount of small glass mirror parts was provided. Also, functional parametric families of digital mirrors (planar, concave and convex) were developed especially for the workshop and offered on-line. Particular foci of this paper are on both: the teaching methodology that was exclusively prepared for the Workshop, and specific usage of experimentation (to trigger unusual ideas and to utilize relevant familiar methods and procedural activities in the new – this context). In the discussion part of this study, a systematized overview of the Workshop results and its analysis from geometric and semantic point of view are given. The results are divided into: first interim critique, second interim critique and final submission. Through a generalization of conclusions, the lessons learned, namely, the level of subject-related geometric knowledge acquired from this unique teaching experience are reviewed, and an analysis of their possible applications in other pedagogic contexts related to geometry-teaching is presented.

AB - Focusing proposed paper on the Architecture, Engineering, Construction and recently included Operation (AECO) sector, we start from a statement that this sector is a step behind other manufacturing domains in overall application of digital technologies and artificial intelligence. With the main motivation to examine ways of bridging the digital gap, we consider adoption of Building Information Modelling (BIM) as one of reliable indications of the state of digitalization in the sector. After briefly introducing general features of BIM technology, this study focuses on the actual situation in Serbia, searching for examples of the most advanced applications and developments in practice. Methodologically the study is qualitative and the research is based on examination of cases, where the observed sample has been created from the application examples presented within the series of online sessions titled “BIM in Practice Serbia”, organized by the Group for BIM Technology of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia. Consisting of twenty examples of various advanced applications of BIM in Serbian practice, this sample is formed “by difference”, looking for various cutting-edge applications. The selected examples of BIM application in Serbia are firstly structured by area of application (design, infrastructure, scan-to-BIM, investors’ adoptions, etc.), then analysed in detail. The results obtained indicate that within the Serbian market we could identify advanced BIM usages, and especially valuable development results, represented by the BEXEL Manager software, developed in Serbia and spread and localized worldwide. Based on the obtained results, we could predict the future of BIM application in Serbia, but also could highlight the contribution of Serbian development efforts to the global AECO sector.

AB - In most cases, artefacts are differentiated in terms of style they belong to – mainly visually, not mathematically. So, the main research questions of this study are both how to numerically encode stylistic regularities (peculiarities) as geometric indicators of artefacts morphology and how to decode them, namely to identify architectural style those artefacts belong to. Columns, namely their capitals are chosen as the most distinctive elements among artefacts. To elaborate on the validity of the defined principles of the aim-related methodology, a few representatives (capital samples) from each of three fundamental classical architectural orders (Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian) are used. The subject of this Paper is to establish relevant indicators of capital qualification, capital classification, and thus, referred architectural order identification. The verification of those indicators is performed by processing two sets of capitals contours (that belong to the mutually equidistant transverse and equiangular radial section planes) of each of the selected samples (namely digital 3D models). The narrower research aim is to point out that it is possible to encode not only chosen but also any other capital – by using the mentioned indicators of fractal and non-fractal nature (as a control one). The wider research aim refers to a possibility to identify order a concrete fragment of capital belongs to in terms of recognising it computationally (as confidently as possible from the mathematical probability point of view) based on the established research methodology principles. Finally, it is possible to conclude that changes of the analysed indicators trendlines behaviour (expressed by changes of its slope, roughness, continuation, etc.) accurately/precisely describe morphology-wise variations of a form that could point out subject-related stylistic variation, as well. So, this Paper demonstrates not only the fact that architectural orders capitals are true fractal objects, but rather how fractal analysis as a tool can be used to scientifically numerically encode/decode their certain characteristics (fractal features) of single- or multi-scale nature.

AB - In this paper, an elliptical pencil of circles is mapped by homology (perspective collineation) into a parabolic-parabolic pencil of hyperbolas because it has two by two common points 1 = 2 and 3 = 4 in infinity, i.e., four overlapping points in the antipode. The mapping also includes the mapping of degenerated conics decomposed into corresponding pairs of straight lines. The elliptical pencil of circles (the ellipses on plane 1) is mapped into a hyperbolic pencil (on plane 2) by perspective collineation for pole S1. The vanishing line v1 intersects all the circles of the pencil so that by homology all the circles are mapped into hyperbolas. To apply supersymmetry to the obtained pencils, the angle between plane 1 and plane 2 must be 45°. The pencil of hyperbolas is mapped by supersymmetry into a pencil of higher-order curves. The obtained pencils are further mapped by inversion and then again by supersymmetry to obtain higher-order curves rich in different shapes. In the second example, the elliptical pencil of circles is placed to the vanishing line v1 so that by homology, it is mapped into a pencil of conics containing an ellipse (circle 1 does not intersect the vanishing line), a parabola (circle 2 touches the vanishing line), a hyperbola (circle 3 intersects the vanishing line). The pencil of conics is elliptical-parabolic because it has two real and separate points and two infinite, i.e., two overlapping points in the antipode. This pencil of conic is also mapped by supersymmetry into a pencil of higher-order curves that intersect at the same number and type of base points as the starting pencil. Higher order curves obtained by mapping are rational line curves.

Higher order curves obtained by mapping are rational line curves.",

AB - An angular size-illusion refers to a contradictory effect related to a seeming size-decrease of focused objects as the observer approaches them. This paper continues the research in this field, trying to establish fundamental principles of how to: (a) efficiently perform an on-photo restitution of an illusion's behaviour (expressed by illusion descriptors) when it is experienced in architectural/urban spaces during movement under the influence of available triggers (represented by illusion determinants of physical nature), and (b) manage it computationally so as to be sustainable for contemporary professional practice. To explain that conceptually, one simple architectural/urban matrix is chosen and digitally photographed. Images are photogrammetrically processed and determinants-related data obtained. Subsequently, descriptors-related outputs are calculated by applying derived mathematical equations (expressed in function of those determinants-related data). Then, behaviour-charts are created and corresponding illusion-characteristics read-off. Finally, it is illustrated how to manage (intentionally modify) the restituted behaviour by varying values of acquired determinants-related data. Given results allow also to "design a new illusion" (to programme and control it) by simulating in digital VR/AR environments. Thus, any cause of unwanted/unpredictable visual impression degradations of important architectural/urban structures can be prevented or minimized (by planning and performing adequate spatial/physical interventions on existing/reconstructed/newly designed matrices).

AB - The modernisation of cities could happen in different ways and at different levels, but development could not happen without energy, and sustainable development could not happen without sustainable energy (Holliday & Yumkella, n.d.). Using the energy that comes from the sun is one of the earliest energy usages. However, modern solar systems offer the possibility of using solar energy in a wide area of urban and rural activities. Although present
in every corner of the world (Kumar et al., 2016), solar energy usage is still under examination and constant technical improvement (El-Faouri et al., 2016). Replacement of standard street lights with solar ones equipped with LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting represents not only a technical improvement but also a significant energy savings step (Alkholidi & Hamam, 2019), (Miskovic, 2013). Solar street lights are more expensive than standard ones but combined with the LED technology, and they are more economical in terms of energy consumption,
reparation needs and maintenance (Spahiu et al., 2018). In this study, we examine the modernisation of cityscapes of three Balkan cities – Cetinje (Montenegro), Tirana (Albania)
and Belgrade (Serbia), through the introduction of photovoltaic (PV) street lighting. After giving the basic information on solar street lights, we present the solar street light systems in three Balkan cities and discuss these applications.

AB - Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present a critical review of the key trends in the integration of
photovoltaic (PV) facilities into the built environment in cities. This is regarded as part of a series of measures
towards wider use of renewable energy sources.
Design/methodology/approach – The problem has been approached from the point that cities are
consumers of large amounts of energy. They require uninterrupted energy supply but with dynamic power
profile. Mainly consumption of energy generated from fossil fuels is present nowadays with significant
pollution of the environment as a consequence. The sustainable energy transition in cities means increasing
the supply of energy from renewable sources.
Findings – The paper points to the integration of PV renewable systems in the built environment,
opportunities and constraints, design conditions and tools. The consideration of the constraints which creates
urban environment is carried out to understand the complexity of selecting locations in the cities. The paper
gives an overview of the possibilities of PV systems integration in the built environment and discusses
physical limitations in the urban environment and simulation tools as well as challenges and research and
development issues.
Research limitations/implications – The paper offers a critical review of the PV applications which
have been illustrated with examples from developed countries. However, examples from developing markets
have not been considered. Future work would address this limitation and enable the discussion from a
comparative perspective.
Social implications – The study gives a comprehensive overview of PV integrations in contemporary
cities, stimulating architects’ practitioners to acquire the PV technology and aesthetics, and to apply it in
future developments.
Originality/value – Observing the use of PV applications from the perspective of architects and designers
the discussion and examples covered in this paper offers an original review, which provides the base future indepth studies on PV applications in various contexts.

AB - This review study, framed in the Work group 4 “Photovoltaic in built environment” within the COST Action PEARL PV, CA16235, aims to examine applications of integrated and applied photovoltaic technologies on ten landmark buildings characterised by distinctive geometries, highlighting the aesthetics of their architecture and quality of PV integration based on a proposed set of seven criteria. The selected building samples cover a large design diversity related to the quality of PV systems integration into building envelope that could serve as a basis for general guidelines of best architectural and technological practice. After introducing the problem and defining the research methodology, an analysis of ten landmark buildings is presented, as representative models of aesthetics of their architecture, photovoltaic integration and implementation and energy performance. The study concludes with the main characteristics of photovoltaic integration on landmark buildings. The paper is intended to support both engineers and architects in comprehending the convergent development of contemporary architecture and photovoltaic technology, as well as the need for a closer collaboration, sometimes resulting in architectural masterworks that promote the diffusion of photovoltaics to the public.

AB - This paper presents the energy balance, architectural design features and cost aspects of 24
building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) projects in three different contexts, namely BIPV in residential,
office and historical buildings. These BIPV projects have been modelled and evaluated for different
geographic locations because the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (2018/844/EU)
has resulted in country-specific regulations and situations aimed towards the reduction in energy
consumption, and hence the CO2 emissions of built environments. Moreover, the geographical
variation of irradiation affects the performance of different BIPV projects on different locations.
The results of our study show that the return of investment of BIPV projects across 12 countries
took (on average) 13.3 years. Furthermore, the residential projects —as compared to non-residential
buildings—were mostly energy plus buildings with an average self-sufficiency of 110% due to their
low energy consumption. In conclusion, most BIPV projects resulted in realistic energy performances
(on average: 761 kWh/kWp.year), low payback times (10 years for residential and office buildings),
and modelled unique design features.

AB - This paper investigates the impact of various extrinsic shooting parameters regarding change of roughness-quality of surface textures of linear objects/elements when presented in the form of unstructured photogrammetrially created point-clouds. To perform this scientifically-wise, two types of specific quality-descriptors are identified: process-quality descriptors and smoothness related quality descriptors. Then, they are precisely defined, computed and mutually correlated. It can be generally concluded that for a fixed focal length, shooting directions perpendicular to the axis of targeted object/element, station-points uniformly radially distributed around it (at a circle of 360 deg.) and obtained process-quality descriptors values that belong to satisfying /recommended ranges, the performed photogrammetric digitalization is declared highly precise and satisfyingly accurate regarding roughness /smoothness and barely prone to object-to-camera distance.

AB - The paper systematizes geometric aspects relevant for understanding design of solar systems. The systematization is based on a review of literature dedicated to various kinds of engineers, including architects, involved in a multidisciplinary process of conceptualizing, designing and realization of PV systems. The understanding of the presented geometric aspects, known as solar geometry, is important not only in terms of finding optimal orientation and most effective tilt of solar modules, but also in terms of adequate geometric modelling of façade elements of a complex shape (as specific photovoltaic modules) in order to be optimally exposed to the sun all over the year. After providing detailed explanations of the main elements of solar geometry using the tools of spherical trigonometry, the paper discusses the integration of the presented geometric concepts in the BIM environments, and refers the example of Autodesk Revit software through its sun study tool. Analysed are functionalities of all interactive components of the 3D solar path representation. A need for more explicit determination of an incidence angle of the sun rays on a tilted surface is stressed. In the conclusion highlighted is the essential knowledge on solar geometry that needs to be acquired during architectural education, so that architects participating in the BIM working environments could be prepared for efficient conceptualization of integrated solar systems.

AB - Building Information Modelling (BIM) is present for more than two decades in domain of new
build construction, and is already gaining certain levels of maturity. In the centre of this technology
stands a 3D model, consisting of intelligent objects, as an infrastructure for all non-geometric
information. Theoretically the model is accessible to all participants of the processes of
building conception, design, construction and use, until the end of its life cycle. In domain of
built heritage, however, BIM is still a new technology that needs to be tested and examined
on various examples, from different points of view. In this study we are focused on selected
cases from international practice, in which BIM has been applied in heritage domain with aim to
examine the technology, its usefulness and various purposes of its application. The three analysed
cases (Harmondsworth Barn, Manchester Town House Restoration and Sydney Opera
House) are selected by diversity, searching for different building sizes, significance, chronologic
appearance and functionality, as well as by BIM application purposes. All of the selected
cases of BIM application are part of wider research projects financed by either government
agencies, ministries or city councils. Methodologically this study is based on the analysis and
comparison of the contents of detailed research reports accompanying each of the considered
cases. After giving a general introduction of BIM technology, in this paper we are highlighting
some specificities of BIM application for the heritage buildings and places. The paper proceeds
with brief analyses of each of the three cases, than a comparison of initial data and the main
findings. After that, a discussion of possible generalization of the main findings is given. The
paper concludes with a set of general directions for the possible BIM technology application in
domain of built heritage.

AB - The theme of this paper is the modeling of focal-directorial surfaces, starting with their definition, as a locus of points, whose sum of the distances to the focus and/or directrix is constant and predefined. We presented a heuristic algorithm for modeling surfaces and their isocurves, achieved through the use of the Grasshopper visual programming editor in the RhinoCeros environment. Surfaces and their isocurves were generated in a spherical grid, because a Cartesian grid proved unsuitable for the task and the chosen approach. This paper additionally proposes a modeling algorithm of a discrete variation of focal-directorial surfaces. The proposed modeling method is a 3D convex hull implemented on a set of surface points, with the selected points close to that surface. The discrete model is realized both in a Cartesian and spherical grid. There are significant differences between the obtained results.

AB - In the European context, the region of the Western Balkans is seen as one significantly affected by the actual climate changes. Using experiences from numerous European cities that are already adapting to their changing climates, the capital cities of the Western Balkans countries are starting to develop strategies of adaptation to actual and expected climate conditions. In this article we give an overview of the document titled Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan with Vulnerability Assessment issued by the City of Belgrade, Secretariat for Environmental Protection. After giving a brief introduction on the document creation within the project Climate Change Adaptation in the Western Balkans and the methodology applied, a structure of the document has been presented highlighting proposed adaptation actions. The paper continues with a critique of the document, main point of which is a lack of indication of financial sources for the proposed actions, as well as interlinking with national adaptation strategies and disaster risk reduction for the parts of the city particularly affected with the floods in 2014.

AB - In this study we examine pedagogic values of the Box Packing concept, a puzzle problem, initially published as a demonstration within the Wolfram Demonstration Project, gathering 27 identical boxes of any proportion, in a regular cubic body. Methodologically based on the content analysis of realized educational experiments, the research is aimed at enlarging possible use of mathematical/geometric concepts in architectural education, particularly in domain of parametric design. After briefly explaining the concept and original demonstration, and giving an overview of its usage in several courses in various contexts, highlighting pedagogic implications of its use (including development of capabilities to recognize architectonics in pure geometric form, acquiring basic modelling skills, manipulating geometric bodies, understanding parametric systems, materialization in various materials including recycled ones, etc.) we focus on its transposition into a parametric system created as a Grasshopper definition (visual algorithmic editor for Rhino 3D software), analyzing the creation of algorithm and characteristic elements of the definition and discussing their potential application in solving other parametric problems.

AB - The theme of this paper is the modeling of focal-directorial surfaces, starting with their definition, as a locus of points whose sum of the distances to the focus and/or directrix is constant and predefined.

AB - "Not enough clarified redevelopment and regeneration initiatives could compromise culture and cultural heritage. Avoiding the sustainability due to possible loss of cultural assets could be irreplaceable. Award winning developers and architects from urban and tribal communities discuss today how to successfully strike a balance between economic redevelopment and the sustainable management of cultural assets; based upon culture." (Jonathan, The emergence of culture-led regeneration: a policy concept and its discontents, Working Paper, University of Warwick, Centre for Cultural Policy Studies, Coventry, 2007). We all recognise how important it is to respect local culture, heritage and tradition; with regeneration, we attempt to focus on quality, balanced with economic opportunity for the population, optimising the visitor's experience by applying a creative mix of cultural, environmental and historic resources linked with social and economical aspects. The new term 'placemaking' does not only measure a physical structure by its aesthetic design; it also defines the integrity of the experience had by the individual, which contributes to the economic viability of public spaces, the resources used and the health and wellbeing of the community. Culture design-led regeneration may be used as a tool to create cultural districts, cultural hubs, etc. and to utilise these zones in order to begin the gentrification process, with all its positive effects. Even unplanned cultural zones, such as Belgrade's Savamala quarter, show that the process can be unstoppable if initiated under the right circumstances.
