Specific characteristics of open space inside this hospital area (hospital open space - HOS) that has a great potential for further development was one of the reasons for choosing this case study is approval for publishing the data and participating in the research.
The survey was based on the questionnaire, alongside direct expert observation of natural and built characteristics, as well as people's movement and behavior. The survey was conducted over a period of two months, with optimal weather conditions and temperatures corresponding to the smooth use of HOS. The sample of respondents is one of the important preconditions for the success of this type of methodological procedure. It consists of 100 respondents, from all categories of hospital users found inside the HOS. Gathered data are processed using the SPSS program for statistical analysis and results are based on 5% statistical significance.

AB - In the light of the development of new construction systems and envelopes based on renewable and natural materials, that is recently obligatory for the EU member countries through New renovation Wave strategy, authors present research on the topic of energy renovation of buildings using renewable materials in modular systems and its possibilities in two developing countries. This paper presents energy savings, through case study of deep renovation of buildings, using timber modular systems for enveloping the characteristic example of residential building. Paper focuses on the period between 1971 and 1980, due to the considerable number of modular buildings designed during the peak of the construction progress and promotion of prefabricated buildings. Total potential energy savings for such building types is considered according to national typologies of residential buildings in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. Through a comparative analysis of these countries, the paper presents following parameters of buildings built in period 1971-1980: total number of buildings, total number of apartments, average energy need for heating - Qh,nd, and total energy need for heating before and after the renovation of the envelope applying standard measures from national typologies and applying timber modular envelope systems, which have the potential for deep renovation of buildings.

AB - Public spaces are important in the cultural landscape of a city, as they provide opportunities for social interaction, recreation, and civic engagement. The way these spaces are designed and managed has a significant impact on their use and meaning. This paper explores the influence of mixed culture on open public places, focusing on housing mega-blocks – the „Block 70“ in New Belgrade as a case study. Block 70 is a mixed-use development that includes residential, commercial, and cultural facilities. It is located in one of the most prominent areas of New Belgrade, which has undergone significant transformation in recent years. The study uses a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods to analyze the cultural influences on the use and perception of open public spaces in Block 70. The paper begins by providing an overview of the theoretical framework for understanding the relationship between culture and open public spaces. It highlights the key concepts of cultural identity, social practices, and the role of the cultural impact seen from the aspects of urban design that is shaped and redefined by diferent cultural trends. The study then presents the results of a survey conducted among the residents of Block 70, first shown in non published paper which examines their perceptions of the cultural influences on urban design in open public spaces. The survey results indicate that the cultural diversity of the residents is reflected in the use and perception of open public spaces in Block 70. The study identifies several cultural factors that influence the use of these spaces, including social norms, gender roles, and cultural traditions. For example, women tend to use the public spaces in Block 70 less frequently than men, due to cultural norms that dictate their roles in open public spaces. The paper also examines the architectural features of Block 70 and their impact on the use and perception of public spaces. Additionally, the study highlights the importance of creating inclusive and accessible open public spaces that reflect the cultural diversity of the community. The findings of this study have implications for urban planners, designers, and policymakers, as they seek to create public spaces that promote social interaction, civic engagement, and cultural exchange.

AB - Physical, mechanical and carbonation progress properties of air lime mortars, formulated with the addition of air entrainers, were analyzed, aiming to investigate the influence of air entrainers on abovementioned properties of lime-based products. Samples were cured in two curing conditions and their properties were evaluated after 14, 28, 60 and 90 days. The results obtained revealed that the addition of air entrainers influences the change in dynamics between drying and carbonation processes, therefore influencing the rate of carbonation process. This observation was reflected in carbonation progress as well as physical and mechanical properties of the tested samples.

AB - Climate change threatens urban health, whether that refers to the human or environmental aspects of urban life.
At the same time, initiatives of city regeneration envision alternative forms of the urban environment, where
derelict spaces have the potential to be brought back to life in ways that would not compromise urban health.
Regeneration processes should utilise mitigation and adaptation strategies that consider the future needs and
anticipated role of cities within the context of the discourse about climate change, accounting for expected and
unforeseen impacts and regarding the city as an agent of action rather than a static territory, too complex to
change. Nevertheless, literature implicating these three parameters synchronously, namely, climate change,
cities, and health, has been scarce. This study aims to fill this gap through a systematic literature review,
exploring climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies that can be employed in urban regeneration efforts
seeking to mitigate climate-exacerbated phenomena and their impacts on urban health as well as identifying the
main trends and opportunities overlooked. Findings show that even though the emphasis is given to the physical
actions and impacts of climate change and urban health, an emerging theme is a need to engage civic society in
co-designing urban spaces. Synergistic relationships, collaborations and avoidance of lock-in situations appear to
be the most significant subtopics emerging from this literature review. One main recommendation is the promotion
of a community-driven, inclusive, participatory approach in regeneration projects. That will ensure that
different vulnerabilities can be adequately addressed and that diverse population groups will have equitable
health benefits.

AB - The construction industry contributes to climate change through significant greenhouse gas emissions. Utilising sustainable building materials with low embodied environmental impacts and low greenhouse gas emissions is key to future sustainable development. Bio-based materials, such as hemp-lime concrete, possess environmental advantages as they make use of a renewable raw material and can sequester CO2 from the atmosphere. Through the use of life cycle assessment methodology the study analyses the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the life cycle of a hemp-lime concrete wall and examines the effects of variations that can arise during the life cycle of the material. Sensitivity analyses were used to examine the effects of varying the hemp shiv sequestration factor, binder carbonation factor, gate to site transport distances and raw material construction waste on greenhouse gas emissions, culminating in the creation of three primary emission scenarios (average, pessimistic and optimistic). It was found that the examined variables can have a large impact on greenhouse gas emissions and the environmental perception of the material, as the optimistic life cycle scenario had a negative global warming potential (−9.696kgCO2eq.), while the pessimistic scenario had a positive global warming potential (10.165kgCO2eq.). Additionally alternative end of life scenarios were developed to examine the effects of varying hemp shiv degradability at the end of life stage, demonstrating the potentially large impacts a high factor of degradable organic carbon can have on life cycle greenhouse gas emissions.

An attempt to locate the Russian spatial planning system within the European planning families

AB - Since the end of the 1980s, several studies have been conducted aiming at understanding the heterogeneity of spatial planning traditions across Europe. Over the years, such studies became more comprehensive and included many European (and not only the European Union) countries. Nevertheless, some parts of Europe (e.g., the Western Balkans or the post-Soviet countries) usually remained excluded from the mentioned studies. To mitigate this gap, the paper focuses on the case of Russia. Using a twofold methodological approach, the paper firstly examines the attributes of Russian spatial planning (through a multi-layered analysis of the socio-economic and institutional settings, the evolution of spatial planning over a century, and contemporary planning instruments and procedures of plan-making), to then compare the attributes of the Russian spatial planning system to the core features of the European planning styles. As a result, the elements of multiple distinct spatial planning styles can be traced in Russian spatial planning: land use management and regional economic planning seem to prevail, whilst comprehensive integrated and urbanism traditions are less represented but not absent. Bearing in mind the complexity of the exercise, this contribution should be considered a preliminary attempt to enlarge the existing comparative studies beyond European countries.

AB - In response to the COVID-19 global pandemic’s effects on the educational landscape, information and communication technologies have been used to implement diverse curriculum contents and provide a transition of traditional learning activities into remote or hybrid learning. This paper describes how a digital learning framework was implemented to transform a classroom-based architectural design studio into a setup that complements face-to-face and online activities, allowing for optimal operation under restricted conditions. The learning experience in this hybrid design studio was investigated using qualitative content analysis, while data from pre- and post-course surveys, and data from the learning platform’s analytics, provide insight into the participants’ perceptions of the course. Findings show that students’ assessments of hybrid learning are generally positive; however, further development of this pedagogy could provide even better responses to accessibility, acquisition, and operation challenges. The study offers a perspective on how to adapt learning in order to provide continuity of educational process beyond changing circumstances and could inform further reviewing and discussion on directions of long-term redefining of a studio design in post-pandemic times when teaching modes are likely to have a more significant online component.

AB - Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, has undergone tremendous changes since the beginning of the new millennium. The call for a transition to a market-driven economy and a democratic society happened overnight: the public protest that preceded the overthrow of the authoritarian political regime on October 5, 2000, left the country in a stalemate position with no institutional mechanisms for dealing with the new social reality (Nedović-Budić et al. 2012; Lazarević Bajec 2009). The absence of a smooth social, economic, and political transformation caused many negative effects, mainly seen in the dominance of wild neoliberalism and rudimentary political pluralism (Perić 2020a). Regarding the economic aspects, unregulated privatization of the state land and resources (e.g., dilapidated central city areas, and abandoned, bankrupted public companies) fuelled the capture of public land and facilities, first for the advantage of domestic oligarchs, and after 2012 also of foreign private developers (Zeković et al. 2015; Nedović-Budić et al. 2012; Perić and Maruna 2012)...

institutional members across the globe, ISUF presents the important international organization of urban
form both for researchers and practitioners. Due to its orientation to both of these fields, ISUF 2023
presents a great opportunity to rethink the praxis, perceived as process by which theory/idea is enacted,
embodied and realized.
The theme for ISUF 2023 is drawn from the previous experience and ideas, directed toward systematization
and synthesis of intellectual knowledge.
Following this line of reasoning, the Conference tracks are envisioned to confront the topics that are
represented as being opposed in order to open up a debate how to transfer ideas to operational knowledge.

AB - Even though the Serbian Network of Urban Morphology (SNUM) is one of the youngest networks within the International Seminar on Urban Form (ISUF), it is believed that each of the networks is grounded and developed on the knowledge coming from the synthesis of science, practice, and education. This research aims to trace the origins of urban morphology in the context of Serbia by assessing the academic engagement of key scholars over time. The research builds on previous findings concerning the origins and genesis of teaching urban morphology in Serbia and a review of academic and practical thoughts and actions in Belgrade. Using data collection, content analysis of annual Faculty books and programs, retrospective faculty books, internal documents, accreditation documents, lecture notes, books, and editions in the subject field and by diagramming and visualization, research tends to establish a broad and detailed framework for creating timelines and identifying clusters. Periodization identifies four different periods that are metaphorically named according to plant growth - formation of Fertile ground, Suitable climate, Sprouts, and Shoots while the clustering enables the detection of the continuity of urban morphology in three scientific fields in the faculty – architecture, urbanism, and history. The metaphor with plant growth is significant for underlining that the roots of any field of study are of immense importance, both for understanding its origin, starting ground, and intellectual heritage, and for its proper growth.

AB - It has been widely assumed that responding to contemporary environmental challenges requires a shift towards an ecological approach to how we plan and design cities and that ecological urban design can bring positive changes to urban life and the environment. But in practice, “ecological design” is often interpreted in a simplistic way (e.g., as “green” technical solutions) and does not use the full potential of the urban design – ecology nexus.
The lecture provides an overview of different meanings of ecology and the ways they relate to urbanism in theory and practice. We explore how different understandings of “ecology” and “ecological” influence the purpose, scope, scale, and process of urban design. The aim is to reveal and discuss contemporary pathways to linking ecology and urban design and to outline the implications of the findings for architecture and urban design education.
We argue that a broader understanding of ecology is needed if we are to respond to environmental challenges in a creative and place-specific way through urban design. In the broad sense, ecology is about relations and relationships in different realms, at different scales and times. An ecological approach to urban design is, therefore, not only about knowing when and how to implement “ecological measures” as instant solutions, but also how to creatively restore broken links and develop strategies for the new, life-supporting ecologies to occur. By encouraging ecological thinking, academic education should help students develop ecological literacy and worldview.
