This is comprehensive monograph dedicated to the Zenit periodical —avant-garde magazine initially founded in Zagreb in 1921, which, after short and furious life and 43 numbers, ended in Belgrade five years later. The book is a sublimation of more than twenty years of mutual work of art historian Irina Subotić and literature historian Vidosava Golubović, who dedicated a great part of their professional work to the topic. The book systematically explores Zenit in the context of political and social turmoil in the 1920s Europe. As the offspring of cultural atmosphere which generated diversity of avant-garde movements — from expressionism and constructivism, to surrealism — Zenit has become basically related to issues of cultural restitution, resurgence of culture and identity, and creative sublimation commonly shared by diverse avant-gardes of the time.
