Technological innovations, and cultural changes they bring, have caused development of cities, which is reflected both in change of physical structures as well as public life within open public spaces. These spaces are generators of public life and they represent locations of gathering, relaxation, interaction and communication. Constant social changes effect on users, forming their desires and needs, which is reflected in ambient values of space. Skadarska Street – Skadarlija is authentic old cultural ambient which reflects specific way of public life of Belgrade. This urban ambient represents assemblage of interlinked material and spiritual values, which reflect the identity of “bohemian quarter” since 19th century, and it holds the status of Immovable cultural good of Belgrade. Focus of this paper is the assessment of light influence of the surrounding structure on ambient forming within the open public space: pedestrian street – Skadarlija. Appearance of open public space at night is basic measure for achievement of active urban space, therefore significance of lighting is reflected in possibility of achieving desired spatial effects in order to accomplish pleasant atmosphere. However, problem is insufficiently defined set of guidelines for light design within urban open public spaces, which could enable realization of desired ambient and emphasize architectural values. Existing recommendations rely on fulfilment of functional aspect – unobstructed basic activities and pedestrians’ safety. Different types of open public spaces and its borders are mostly treated in uniform fashion which entirely neglects complexity of urban context. This research will present graduation of intimacy zones within open public space, as well as its influence in ambient forming associated with complex relations within urban zones. Furthermore, the research will present value of lighting of open public spaces and its significance in transformation of ambient contents and activities.sr
