dc.description.abstract | Dragiša Brašovan’s early architectural work is related to the cultural developments that were a direct reflection of the Central European social and political context in the first decades of the twentieth century. That was the time of a rising ideology of nationalism which generated a manifold identity crisis in markedly multicultural environments. In such a context, while being a very important and operative mechanism in the construction of an abstract nationalist ideology, architecture also offered the possibility for discourses that would go beyond nationalist frameworks and seek to overcome the imposed crisis. Brašovan’s work from his Budapest Period reveals a complex of ideas where the problem of constructing and presenting a relevant historical and cultural tradition was of fundamental import. In addition, distinctive circumstances in which Central European cultures developed, in the borderland between the centre and its periphery, shaped Brašovan’s personal and artistic profile and influenced creative strategies he employed in his attempt to sublimate the manifold identity crisis. A few of his major projects point to the possibility of creating a markedly pluralistic identity of architecture, above all through the diffusion of different traditions and formal paradigms. In that way he offered a distinct model of bridging sharp dichotomies that polarized the social and cultural life of his environment. From the first rough sketches (1908), and the designs of the Theatre building (1912) and Pančevo Bank (1913), to his visionary project for the “Nation’s House” (about 1912), Brašovan’s work points in more than one way to a complex of broader Central European experiences – not only in terms of form or style, but above all at the level of architectural semioticsin Central Europe’s cultural system. | en |
dc.description.abstract | Počeci arhitektonske delatnosti Dragiše Brašovana povezani su s kulturnim strujanjima koja su bila neposredan odraz društvenog i političkog konteksta u Srednjoj Evropi tokom prvih decenija XX veka. To je bilo vreme rasplamsavanja ideologije nacionalizma, koji je u izrazito multikulturalnoj sredini iznedrio višestruku krizu identiteta. U takvom kontekstu arhitektura je bila veoma važan i operativan mehanizam u konstrukciji apstraktne nacionalističke ideologije, ali je isto tako predstavljala mogućnost za stvaranje diskursa koji su nadilazili nacionalističke okvire i težili za prevazilaženjem nametnute krize. Brašovanovi radovi iz budimpeštanskog perioda svedoče o određenom kompleksu ideja, u kojima je problem konstruisanja i prikazivanja odgovarajuće istorijske i kulturne tradicije bio od fundamentalnog značaja. Osim toga, specifične okolnosti razvoja srednjeevropskih kultura, na razmeđima centralnog sistema društva i njegove periferije, oblikovale su personalni i umetnički profil Dragiše Brašovana i uticale su na stvaralačke strategije kojima je pokušao da sublimira višestruku krizu identiteta. Na nekoliko značajnih projekata Brašovan je ukazao na mogućnost stvaranja izrazito pluralističkog identiteta arhitekture, pre svega kroz difuziju različitih tradicija i oblikovnih paradigmi. Na taj način on je ponudio svojevrstan model premošćavanja oštrih dihotomija, koje su polarizovale društveni i kulturni život sredine u kojoj je Brašovan živeo i stvarao. Počev od prvih skica (1908), preko projekata za Pozorište (1912) i Pančevačku banku (1913), sve do vizionarskog projekta „Doma nacije” (oko 1912), Brašovanovi radovi na više načina ukazuju na kompleks širih srednjeevropskih iskustava — ne samo u pogledu formalnih ili stilskih karakteristika, već pre svega na planu arhitektonske semiologije u kulturalnom sistemu Srednje Evrope. U tom smislu ogled o Brašovanovom ranom delu predstavlja izraz potrebe za drugačijim teorijskim i metodološkim aspektima proučavanja istorije arhitekture. | sr |
