AB - For the future development of the cities in the light of climate change it is necessary to have
clear guidelines (some kind of manifest) that would include principles of resilience on different
scales. These principles must vary in size, from micro to macro scale. In order to achieve the
resilience of the city in its various scales (micro and macro), it is necessary to provide the possible
approaches for the operation within the variable scales of architecture – from micro to macro scale,
from object to the territory. This is precisely in accordance with the aim of this research paper – to
give Notes for the future manifest for the formation of these principles. The manifesto is viewed
differently from the strategy – it should serve like a guideline, but not the instruction. Therefore, the
principles that maintain openness, flexibility, and capacity for adapting to different conditions
(which is one of the basic characteristics of resilience) are examined. For purpose of this research,
the territory of Belgrade was selected as an experimental field of activity, or even more precise,
zones of dominant naturalness, such are Zvezdara Forest, Košutnjak and/or Park Ušće.

AB - The aim of this paper is to investigate the potentials of utilizing the notion of scale as a methodological tool during a process of architectural design. This design method is exercised through a framework of Architecture and Nature design studio, within the program of undergraduate studies, Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade. The major architectural challenge was the issue of scale of a design (micro) in relation to the scale of the context (macro), proposing micro design as macro concept, the overall significance of concurrent perception of the whole and its parts. The proposed design method is based on simultaneous design procedures in opposing scales. In architectural design, scale is commonly perceived as a mere tool for optimizing and communicating the project.
During the course of design process, answers for each architectural question are searched for in the scale of the context (a network - topography), as well as in the scale of a detail (a dot – element). Within such a framework, students were expected to give a proposal for localized programmatic and spatial intervention that, as an impulse point, has the potential influence on and affects the ground of the overall context of the War Island.

AB - The motivation for this study is to establish a relation between architecture and territory, by researching the transformation of landscape configuration as a product of processes that occur both within the concept of architecture and the concept of territory. The reason for this research was the need for simultaneous consideration, within architectural and urban design processes, of both the city and the object. The proposed doctoral dissertation studies the role of architectural and urban space production as elements of landscape configuration in the process of the city territory development. The dissertation examines this trough a closer look at the processes of transformation of Belgrade’s landscape configuration in the second half of the XX century. The aim of this research is to establish a new model for the future transformations of landscape configuration on the basis of past experience in accordance with contemporary tendencies of development. The research initially sets the theoretical background, postulates and the focus of considering the relations within the cognitive triad landscape, territory and architecture. In the context of the research, for the purpose of reviewing elements of landscape configuration and processes of city territory development, the role of the architectural gesture had special significance, both within the process of forming the city territory of and the transformation of the landscape configuration. Taking the continuity of changes within the pre-defined categories (landscape, territories and architecture) as a starting point, landscape is viewed more as a process than as a product, which makes coding of the elements of its structure (such as architecture) important for reading the layers of changes and development within already established territories. The processes of defining the landscape configuration were examined through different scenarios of operation described by theoretical concepts of physical and social space „production”, which result in spatial manifestations of elements of landscape configuration within the process of the city territory development. These, as such, are cultural artifacts with clearly defined positions and influence within the structure...

AB - Architecture represents one of the possible ways of how territory can be
marked, but it is also a permanent trace of the process of its development. As a built form it is
a sign in the ground, while as an idea it represents a trace of various approaches to its development within a theoretical field. This paper examines the significance and meaning of a single
architectural gesture within the context of an architectural narrative of the city territory by
starting from the structural approach to observation of the territory (Gregotti) and the method of post-structuralist analysis.
This study links and analyses: 1) the importance of the architectural gesture in the process of defining and developing the territory of the city, through 2) changing position from
the phenomenological (formal, formative) to topographic discourse of observing architecture,
which examines 3) the potential of the interpretative narrative both of the architecture and
the territory. Memorial park Jajinci was selected as a case study whose primary purpose is to
relate messages about the significance and meaning of the place where it is located. The aim
of this kind of analysis of the interpretive potential of this example is to show the importance
of the elements of the territory as a witness of the processes of development based on spatial
narratives ‘written down’ in the city territory.

AB - This article investigates Cerak Vinogradi housing estate (Darko Marušić, Milenija Marušić and Nedeljko Borovnica, 1977-1988), moving through a string of relevant factors: from the chief principles of the housing policy, the urban and architectural design of the estate and the dynamics of its construction, to the contacts between the architects and residents, and the latter’s informal interventions. We approach these factors by referring to the highly popular 1980 TV series Vruć vetar, with the series acting as a valuable insight into the social and spatial patterns of ex-Yugoslavia. We use the series to demonstrate how Cerak Vinogradi were the result of tension existing between two frames: the first defined through urban and architectural design and unsuccessfully defended by the architects, and the second which involved deficiencies in construction and apartment space, inciting in turn the user interventions. Demonstrating all the alienation the housing policy of the day resulted in, we treat the informal interventions not as a response to the invisibility of users but as a supplement to this very same policy. Referring to the Lacanian theory of socio-symbolic order (the ‘big Other’), we interpret the user interventions as a crucial part of the existing order, placing them in the context of the cynical logic of self-management socialism.

AB - The traditional system of higher education looks at architecture either as art or engineering discipline, simplifying other aspects of its discourse, like social, economic or environmental. The emphasis in architectural education should be relocated from the hypothetical into the real world, which takes into account the actual characteristics of the space, its complex and contradictory problems, as well as specific requirements of the community that uses the space. In order to promote students and the general public awareness of on the specific problems of space and society with which architect could face in the practice of architecture at the University of Belgrade - Faculty of Architecture in recent years a number of different courses is set dealing with these problems in different ways. Depending on the level and scope of the study various courses with their methods and curricula are directed to different modes of connection between architects and society. One of the important aims of these curricula is the social awareness of the architect. Seeking a new architectural paradigm

AB - This article presents the design methods and results of research conducted by Master's degree students on situating an architectural intervention in the protected natural landscape of Park Forest Košutnjak. The aim was an attempt to put this important, albeit widely neglected, park forest back on the cultural map of Belgrade. This meant that a high level of urbanity could be achieved by way of reorganising its structure, increasing its vitality, attractiveness and accessibility, while preserving its value as heritage landscape. Architecture does not regard nature simply as a physical backdrop for the built structure. The elements and rhythms of complex natural phenomena, through topography, climate and vegetation, become an inspiring part of the architectural discourse. Thus, nature and architecture are allowed to intersect and intertwine, affecting the process of urban living and creating a new cultural landscape. This article suggests that the treatment of protected landscape requires a new architectural paradigm, in which nature and architecture would form a unique place-based system. This approach would contribute not only to resolving the problem of how to revitalise a park forest but also to raising awareness of the adaptive quality that such a place possesses in the context of environmental change.

AB - In higher education architecture is traditionally considered either an artistic or an engineering discipline, while its other aspects (sociological, economic or ecological) are overlooked or neglected. Based on the results of the research carried out at the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade (Master of Architecture programme) during the elective course “Re-Birth: New life of abandoned spaces“, this article examines how, shifting from a strict academic framework, architectural education can contribute to the formation of expert, versatile and socially responsible architects. The idea of the course was to position a specific place and its community within the structure of architectural mechanism, rather than look at it in a merely physical context where the community is an obstacle and a burden. When we sum up the working method and the interpretative potential of the subject through students’ works, the research discussion points to the value of the “learning based on the place“method in architectural education and possible ways of strengthening the connections between the place, the local community and architecture. The role of architecture is to open up space for dialogue which will help improve the heritage and advance the local community. Three facts emerge from the research. Firstly, the role of architecture can change by redefining its attitude to man and place and thus encouraging the social interaction. Secondly, the characteristics of architecture should change according to the purpose and significance of a particular place - the cultural landscape is shaped in such a way that the most striking components of architectural intervention are sound, smell, touch, light and shade, the psychological experience of space. And finally, architectural intervention should optimally shape a concrete place with regard to its population and cultural and historical references.

AB - This paper examines the potential resources in the educational process and research methodology in the field of architectural and urban design, by positioning of the Blog as a formal framework of content and representation of contemporary architecture and as a tool that can contribute to the growing complexity of the knowledge base in the field of architecture.
In this context, this paper examines two theses. The first one suggests that, used properly, a Blog can become a useful tool in the form and content of the research. This is based on the assumption that reflection of the architectural design process may have a significant influence on the development of architectural education, particularly in the area of information exchange and raising of the critical awareness about the problems of the specific topics in spatial, contextual and formal sense. The second theses encourages the development of blogs as a tool that may extend the interpretive potential of the representation in the field of architectural and urban design, by displacing it from the real to the virtual space and by giving it a value of the driver and initiator of possible changes.
The paper also examines the ways in which the blog can establish, enhance, deepen or direct the already known and reliable methodological and conceptual basis of architectural education on the one side and representation of architectural and urban design, on the other side.

The main scope of the research was on situating an architectural intervention in different landscapes. The power of learning from the nature changes the material and sensual possibilities of architecture by expanding the ways in which architectural interventions may be conceived. In this kind of architectural education architecture and landscape are allowed to intersect and intertwine with society, affecting the process of living, thus creating a new cultural landscape as a part of the sustainable society. This article indicates that contemporary development of society requires a new architectural paradigm, in which landscape and architecture form a unique place-based system. In order to develop a new architectural paradigm it is necessary to starts from the process of architectural education. It would contribute not only to new trends in architectural education as a part of the modern development of humanities and social science, but also to the awareness about the need for the socially responsible architect.

AB - Nature can become a resource of contemporary life in the city where leisure asks for new sanctuaries over and over again. Nature does not stop only at the physical, but also affects the process of urban living, through the intersecting and intertwining of architecture and nature, making a new urban landscape. During each architectural intervention in the natural landscape, it is necessary to reconsider the position, scope, program, and its measure in the context of contemporary city life, which will be viewed from the ratio of the materiality of architecture and landscape. This paper reports results and methods of Master students' research on the relation between nature and architecture, in the particular context of Kosutnjak, park-forest and city resort that covers an area of 330 hectares at an altitude of 250m, in Belgrade. During the first year of Master studies, working two academic years at the same location, two groups of ten to fifteen students have had the task of examining the positioning of architectural intervention in the context of Kosutnjak. During the semester, they dealt with the physical and program review of the relationship of the inherited structures and landscapes through finding new positions for architecture in relation to city-nature, resulting in a change of identity of the urban landscape. Students were expected to find new possibilities and limitations of networking nature and the architecture, through a new offer of small and hidden architectural intervention that changes nature, does not disturb its rhythm and includes all of its attributes as positive stimulants, thus creating the architecture that emphasizes and promotes nature.

Students were expected to find new possibilities and limitations of networking nature and the architecture, through a new offer of small and hidden architectural intervention that changes nature, does not disturb its rhythm and includes all of its attributes as positive stimulants, thus creating the architecture that emphasizes and promotes nature.",

AB - At this moment, and under the circumstances that surround us, we have recognized as a definite global challenge the problem of climate change, and in general, the ecological misbalance of cities. In an attempt to meet this challenge, we will try to discuss possibilities of implementing the 'Eco-Infill' strategy (fragments of nature incorporated into abandoned artificial environment) as a viable, somewhat 'alternative', urban development strategy. The contemporary matrix of the post-industrial urban landscape is dotted with large and small fragments of abandoned spaces, which need to be incorporated into the city texture. Belgrade is a city with a potential, one of the larger capitals of the region, standing on the threshold of the European Union and undergoing an intensive process of political, economic and social transition. Similar to other large cities, it was previously an industrial city, but is now increasingly relying on the tertiary sector, promoting itself through its geographical, morphological, and cultural advantages. The consequences of privatization during transition and an exceptionally long and difficult political and economic crisis produced Brownfield and other abandoned spaces of the city centre with a complicated proprietary-ownership status, and no realistic guidelines for a much needed regeneration of the city centre in terms of contemporary problems linked to ecological, social and cultural values. In this article, there is a tendency to define principles on which the transformation of these abandoned places is based on and to try to apply these strategies onto the Belgrade shipyard on the river Sava. If we accept the previously set general views, these spaces can become crucial in developing a strategy for mitigation and adaptation to climate change. Although these effects are primarily aimed at confronting climate change, they are bound to upgrade the quality of life and offer new life styles, potentially affecting all aspects of urban life, considering that most of the eco-infill we are talking about consists of active public space.
